Czech Republic to miss goalkeeper Petr Cech for last two Euro 2008 qualifiers

PRAGUE, Czech Republic - The Czech Republic will have to do without star goalkeeper Petr Cech in its last two European Championship qualifying games this month.

The Czechs play Slovakia on Nov 17 in Prague and travel to Cyprus four days later.

The Czech Republic leads Group D ahead of Germany on head-to-head results with both teams on 23 points. The two teams have already qualified for next year's tournament in Austria and Switzerland.

Cech injured a calf muscle injury Tuesday in Chelsea's 0-0 draw with Schalke in the Champions League and could be out for several weeks.

AC Milan defender Marek Jankulovski is still not available after having surgery on his right knee.

Coach Karel Bruckner called up three rookies: goalkeepers Daniel Zitka of Anderlecht and Michal Danek of Czech club Plzen, and Sparta Prague defender Michal Kadlec.

Juventus defender Zdenek Grygera returns after recovering from a muscle injury from the August friendly against Austria.

Grygera: We are victims! Friday 7 March, 2008

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Zdenek Grygera is the latest Juventus defender to claim that the Bianconeri are suffering at the hands of Italy’s referees.

Yesterday, Grygera’s teammate Jonathan Zebina told journalists the Turin giants were being ‘massacred’ by match officials.

Juventini were incensed 10 days ago when, in a match against Reggina, they were denied three clear penalties.

The decisions cost the Old Lady as they lost 2-1 in Reggio Calabria, prompting the club’s directors to send an open letter of complaint to the Italian FA.

In an interview with Juventus Channel, Grygera spoke of his shock at the attitude of the men in black.

“In Italy there are problems with the referees,” he noted. “I have seen what happened in Reggio Calabria. I have understood that this is all normal.”

The Czech international wasn’t as scathing in his criticism as Zebina, but acknowledged that he was left dumbfounded by some of the verdicts given by match officials.

“There is a lot of pressure on referees. It is not like in Holland or the Czech Republic. Here, people speak about football every day.

“Still, I have seen many errors that I cannot explain.”

The former Ajax player also spoke of his experiences so far in his first season at Juve.

“It’s all new here. There are differences to Holland but I have no difficulties playing in whatever formation.

“The team defends best in zones but I have also man-marked.”

The 27-year-old is still adapting and is yet to secure a regular place in the side, appearing in 14 of the Bianconeri’s 26 matches. But Grygera is proud to be with the Old Lady.

“Juventus has a great history that you cannot help but feel,” explained the Czech. “The shirt weighs on your back.

“When I first saw the Bianconero jersey with my name on it I realised a dream.”

    Grygera: Too Many Dodgy Errors
Zdenek Grygera has become the latest Juventus player to criticise the volume of refereeing decisions going against the club.

A couple of days ago team-mate Jonathan Zebina described the error-ridden officiating as a “massacre”, and Grygera has now had his say on the matter.

“In Italy there are problems with the referees,” the Czech Republic international noted.

“I have seen what happened in Reggio Calabria. I have understood that this is all normal.

“There is a lot of pressure on referees. It is not like in Holland or the Czech Republic. Here, people speak about football every day.

“Still, I have seen many errors that I cannot explain.”

Grygera signed for Juventus from Ajax on a Bosman transfer last summer, and he has spoken about his first season in Turin.

“It’s all new here. There are differences to Holland but I have no difficulties playing in whatever formation,” he explained.

“The team defends best in zones but I have also man-marked.

“Juventus has a great history that you cannot help but feel. The shirt weighs on your back.

“When I first saw the Bianconero jersey with my name on it, I realised a dream.”

This is getting ridiculous, apart from the napoli game imo every game that we had refereeing errors against us we had a chance to win or just plainly lost ourselves.

Yes we've been dealt a rough hand but give me a break, just look closely at game like reggina and parma and you would see that we could've finished them off but we didn't!

Complaining won't get us anywhere, we have the quality but you get players like grygera playing shit us and then saying the ref did this or that. Two defenders came out criticizing the refs after the fiorentina game and both had bad games.
