I had a cat called Jet but it died aged 17. I would get another one, they are pretty low maintenance and more affectionate that people give them credit for, without being dependent on you like dogs are. In fact my (ex) friend forgot to feed mine when I was away once and the cat had been eating all sorts and dragging it into my kitchen, she also got into the cupboard to get her food and my cereal out
