Those were the middle-ages and different rules counted there. No army was different than the Turkish army, they all did the same things.
It a well known fact how did the Turkish army function. If the city surenders than nothing happens to the people from that city, if the city fights then after the city is conquered the Sultan gives 3 days to his soldiers to do whatever they want to the inhabitants and to the city.
And what do you think some soldier who was marching for 3 months would like to do to do people from the city and to the women from the city ?

The funny thing about you're statement is that to this day, the United States is blamed for inaction in Rawanda. It's almost as if it doesn't matter what we do or don't do because we are the US well will be blamed for what happens. Either way we are hypocritical. If NATO had not intervened and the war had played out it is very likely that people would be saying the same thing about the Balkans.
Perhaps on a grander scale.

I hate it when we (US) intervenes in International situations. I know people are going to be pissed whatever the outcome. My personal opinion is that it is Europe's turn to clean up the messes in the world.

Actually we don't really pay much attention to History, otherwise we would understand the mistakes of the past and learn from them. The truth is that our foreign policy isn't perfect. No one is saying that.

Realize that until Iraq in 2003, the US was required to get UN or NATO approval to act in these situations. The tardiness in Srebrennica is the fault of Europe as well as the US, if not more. Maybe we were wrong to show up late. Perhaps all the killing would have stopped and there wouldn't have been any more massacres after Srebrennica. Damned if we do, damned if we don't. Like I've said before we should just let the world handle its own business for a few decades, withdraw and work on our own economy, infrastructures and social systems.

Rwanda was an entirely different situation than seen in the Balkans, and of course people will blame us for not acting. That's not the point.

The point is that the United States protrays itself as the peacekeeper, as the country to "justly" clean up different messes around the world in the "kindness of our good hearts." Yet practically every "peacekeeping" campaign we enter into nowadays contains some hidden agenda. In the 90's it was a struggle with Russia, just like it is today for assets in the Balkans. Our dealings with Ethiopia and Nigeria are based upon natural resources in those countries, and we have placed several leaders into power across the globe who have come back to haunt us and the people who lived under them. It may seem like people blast the US no matter what, but our track record certainly doesn't let us off the hook for much. Especially right now where we invade countries merely for oil.

But the fact is, I just cannot sit here and say what we have done in the Balkans is of everybody's best interest when we killed so many innocent civilians and continue to kill people today with traces of Uranium scattered across Eastern Bosnia and Serbia. As people here have already alluded to, they would much rather fight their own battles than have us come in, take sides, and then skew the outcome to our advantage. That's what you call using a land and a people.

I don't know how we can condone such actions.

We know the history, we just disregard it because it's not in our "best interest."

And I also want to pull our support of various places, especially Israel, and concentrate on what you stated. However, our economy depends too much on foreign oil, and that's why we're in Iraq and other places in the Middle East trying to secure pipelines and deals for our petroleum safety. This won't end... no way. We will just continue prancing around like we're the moral proprietors of the world, forming deals in the expense of others.

Little can see what is really going on on ht Balcan because there is strong affection from the media on the west. The people are being bombarfed with false news, and just because the big newpapers and TV stations are publicing the news, does not nececary menas they are true!

We had the same problem 7y ago, luckly we managed to keep our teritrry. It's pretty weird how terrorists who masacre burned human bodies & put signatures on it, can be described as "freedom fighters" from BBC. Americans doesn't have a clue about that, Veronica [my former employee's mother, 73year old woman] even gave help for the fighters, not realizing she was financing terorist guerilla war.

Our whole north-west part was under siedge, but the moment when we won the 'war' was when 1 000 UCK[Liberating Army of Kosovo, translated] soldiers were intercepted while passing in to Macedonian theritorry to join ONA[Liberating Albanian Army] and began initiative on further territories... For "human rights" normally, not for territory.
Now how came one who is fighting for his human rights, can gather guns and kill people? I think it is not the correct way to do it.

In one bizare incident, one village was surrounded from all 4 sides, and the "fighters" were traped inside. In interval of 7 hours, the EU nation gave ultimatum to the Macedonian goverment, not to take further actions, and NOT TO TAKE ANY PRISONERS. They've send 2 busses in the village, took the soldiers from inside, and deported them back to their base. These were the people, who were killing the Macedonian police and military.

Look at the paradox now!!! My father was personally participant in the war, then his convoy was atacked and 10 Macedonian soldiers were killed. The soldiers who survived, had injuries & traumas, were compensated with finfncial help then. Now, the goverment is reconsidering and want their money back! Why?!? Because the leaders from ONA, are in our parlament now, and they want bigger salaries, and claimed they were the damaged side during the conflict so they want their money. Nice...

Throught the history the main reason behind wars was always about resources. History WILL repeat itself. Howcome when Iraq invaded Kuwait, US goverment was the first who started draining oil after Iraqui's defeat?

This will be a huge precedent. This opens the doors for all the provinces of the world to separate themselves. Hell Croatia could be dissected in a number of parts.. It's a historical Serbian province, it's Serbian land but the people there are not Serb, the very big majority, and that has to stand for something. But which is more important, history or the people? One things for sure, this isn't to be decided by a third side(USA).

I'm completelly evenhearted about this and I won't congratulate anyone but one thing's for sure, that ever-so-popular Serb mentality won't be surpressed for too long. A war is due IMHO.

Aren't some of the most "sacred" Serbian Orthodox churches located in Kosovo though? There seems to be an overwhelming amount of Serb history there, so I can see where the Serbs are coming from. Just like the Palestinians.
