Again, if my life depended on it, I'd find my way around Russian/Ukranian/Bulgarian. I've succesfully communicated with a Russian who didn't know a word of english once. But that was on a really raw base, I basically spoke Croatian and he spoke Russian and we both nodded a lot. I've had a similar experience with a Bulgarian as well. They're different languages, share some basic similarities but they are clearly foreign languages to us.

That's so cool lol. I've done that with Dutch once or twice


btw, why are Serbians so depressed looking? There are a few Serbians here at my school, they play basketball. They always looked in a pissed off mood for some reason lol.

I don't know, have you met any Croatians to compair? Perhaps us Balkans have that weird vibe or perhaps it's just those guys.

Serbians do indeed have some kind of pissed off mood as Ze said. But I met a lot of serbs who are very nice guys (and girls ) and it was pretty cool talking to them. Same goes for Croats and Bosnians.

I understand like 95% percent of serbo-croatian, a bit less macedonian and I would probably understand more Czech if they would talk slower... but Russian, Polish and Ukrainian is total different

Depends I guess but for me it's a Serbian accent. The Serb girls have such a "thick", "rough" accent, it sounds incredibly sexy to me. Of course that all falls in the water if the girl weighs 200kg or something.

On the other side, the girls from ex-Yugoslavia fall on my accent. I have no idea why but they all fall on us Dalmatians.

Vlatko, do you really find Bulgarian hard to understand ?
I lived for few years in Macedonia as a kid and i understand their language perfectly so maybe that's why i find Bulgarian very easy.......but i thought it won't be too hard to understand for you either.
