Only 10 European and South American teams in the first knockout round. I think this is the lowest number ever. Even lower than the 11 in 2002 and 2010.

But in the quarters everything's back as it ever was, with 7/8 coming from Europe and SA.

Europeans are fairly consistent but I think South Americans have underperformed.

Nah, Europeans too had WCs with 6/16 in the first knockout round. But it's mostly 8, 9 or 10 Euro teams.

It's same with SA. They regularly have 3 or 4. This time they did pretty bad with only two in the 1/8 finals.

Well I get that, 5 in a row would be too much but except for Croatia, which has slim chances of progressing, Id like Portugal or Netherland to play the finals. They have never won it and they had some great generations in the past. Ronaldo being benched for the final game, while his team lifting the cup, would be priceless as well.

I really don’t want to see Portugal winning it at all. I think Ronaldo would be happy no matter what, he was in the bench during the euro final and they won that one and still credit him with it.

They are a very likeable team though. I would put them ahead of England if I thought they even had a 5% chance of winning.

Normally Netherlands would be on the top but I don’t really like anyone in this current squad.

Even as an azzuri supporter I'd rather Brazil win it and extend their lead than those britbongs. England winning it would be a disaster of which we would never hear the end of.
Argentina and Portugal lower on the list because the Ronaldo/Messi fanboys are just detestable.
