Maradona was quoted as saying that Agnelli wanted him to join Juventus (prior to his move to Barca) but that there were some problems @ Fiat at the time that prevented us from acquiring him. This got me to thinking about players we missed out on who could potentially have worn our jersey (we were very close to them at one point).

I can think of Pele, Figo, Cristiano Ronaldo, and the original Ronaldo. Am I missing anyone else worth mentioning? Imagine an attack comprising Del Piero and Ronaldo being backed by Zidane and Davids. That is an insane amount of talent there, just as good as the Barca of Stoichkov, Hagi, and Romario :D
Crespo. He was very close as well.

It was definitely a shame to miss out on both Nesta and Batistuta. As regards Crespo, he was a very good player, but I never really liked him.

Sign Mata.

Tevez - Llorente
Mata
Asamoah - Vidal - Pogba - Licht
Chiellini - Bonucci - King Barz
Buffon

With Mata on there we won't need wingers since we'll have good offense from him together with Tevez and Llorente. Obviously the formation would be even better if we had better wingbacks but those guys do great in defence for us.

You don't mind restricting one or both of Vidal and/or Pogba offensively, then?

Do you think that would be the byproduct of this formation?

I wouldn't mind trading their offense for Mata. They'd still be around, bossing in midfield. Maybe now they'd have to do less in offence with someone like Mata there.
