Fair enough regarding the 4-3-3-argument. Diamanti would obviously be best suited for that tactic, and we don't seem to use it anymore. But we did use it a lot more when Pepe was around, though, and I think we would utilize it more if Diamanti was to be signed.

I wouldn't want us to pay 10 million in cash for Diamanti, but 4-5 millions + a fringe player (depending on who, ofc) wouldn't be a bad deal.

what was the reasoning for folks not wanting him? 12m was too much? overrated?

I don't recall..
Actually if i recall if we had paid 2m more(not sure about the exact figures) for his co-ownership he would've been ours but Marotta insisted on being a cheapskate and continued to play hardball which eventually made us lose out on him.

Seriously, if we still want to keep this formation/mentality once Pirlo is not really up to par anymore, there's no better player who could fit his shoes than Verratti. He'd be just like a sequel to what Pirlo has done...
