Pirlo was increasingly a liability. Offered not too much actually, and a big risk defensively.
We played VMPog with pereyra behind tevez+morata and it was blisteringly good. The first times Marchisio played that regista role. So great
Then Pogba got injured, and Pirlo came back into the team.
When Pogba returned, there was a big issue. Pogba was in poor form. We needed the creativity of pirlo to compensate, so we dropped pereyra and fielded vidal to compensate the glaring weakness pirlo had became when defending.
When we played Barcelona in the final, Pogba still wasent close to his best form.
the second part of 14/15, is when Marchisio undoubtable became the better pick for regista. And if Pogba never got injured, Pirlo wouldnt have played the final. And we would have had significant better chances to win it.
Alot of people forgot, but in 14/15 we went to the final with past it pirlo, postknee injury vidal without the offensive output, and post injury pogba in decent-at-best form.
Imagine if that team had stayed fit.

Against Milan, Sturaro pressed the defence and Pjanic was covering the left flank
Nope (1st time Marchisio played regista was under Conte in 13-14, later under Allegri at the beginning of the 14-15 season in our 352 when Pirlo was injured and we still didnt use 4312), we played VMPog with Pereyra only occasionally to rest Pirlo and when Andrea was out injured. we couldnt even use it that much because Vidal and Pogba both had periods of injuries when they missed a lot of games. Allegri played Pirlo whenever healthy and fit, i know because people complained all the time and I defended him (and i was one of Pereyras biggest fans in 14-15). Pereyra played whenever either of our starting 4 got injured, Marchisios and Vidals versatility in playing different positions allowed that, thats how he ended up playing so much because we mostly had one of our 4 CMs injured for a longer period and/or some other struggling with form.
also, Pirlo ended the season with 5 goals 5 assists (scored the 1-0 vs Olympiacos, scored the 1-0 vs Empoli, scored a late 2-1 vs Torino, scored the 2-1 vs Atalanta, scored the 1-0 vs Torino, assisted the 2-1 vs Napoli away, assisted the 2-0 vs Lazio and Palermo, assisted the 1-1 vs Fiorentina, assisted the 3-0 vs Cagliari), how can you say he ddint offer that much? directly contributed to 21 out of our 87 points that season and the 3 crucial points in CL in us even passing the group. big risk defensively? how many crucial errors do you remember from him? how many in big CL games? name them. we were 1-0 up vs Napoli in the SC up until 67th minute when he was playing, when he went off we conceded 2 goals and lost the game. we went to a CL final (which we should have won) and complete a treble that season with him as a starter, but the guy was such a liability to us, we would have been so much better without him. lol

If you remeber the Vidal-Marchisio-Pogba-Pereyra midfield against dortmund we looked incredible. Defensively sound and we won 3-0 against a side that beat real madrid not too long before.
oh you mean the one when those 4 played together for a total of 13 minutes until Pogba got hurt, during which we got a 1-0 lead through a Tevez wonder goal and we later destroyed them after we went 352? that game i remember very well

Verratti is not Vidal kind of muscle but he is a very capable fighter, aside from his on the ball skills. I've always liked him more than Pogba and hoped we would trade 1:1
Verratti would offer more running, pressing, tackling that the likes of Witsel, which people here describe as phyisical, so what he said is obviously not true. the part where ha says Verratti wont solve our issue i mean, the part where he says we cant get him is true sadly
