Yeah. This. I just don't get the people saying he was world class at Bilbao. Clearly not. His best season was 29 goals in all competitions. But he played 53 games, and was the focal point of their entire attack. He only scored 17 league goals, the rest were Copa del Rey and Europa League. Was he very good that year? Yes. Was he world class? Not in the slightest, and that was his best year.

The argument that La Liga defenses are shit and weak is outdated and plain wrong. Fucking Rossi had like a goal every game for Fiorentina while he was healthy.

I agree with this. That line of thinking is ridiculous in this current day. I still don't think Llorente was world class at Bilbao. It's giving out the label far too freely. He was very good for 3 seasons in his mid-20s. But not world class.

I don't get this idea that Zaza can't improve and become better, considering he's 23 and quite a ways off from 24 still.

Look at someone like Diego Costa. 8 league goals at 21, 6 at 22, 10 at 23, and 8 at 24. Could anyone have predicted he would have become one of the most prolific strikers in the world at age 25 and 26? I doubt it.

Zlatan didn't really become a world beater until 26 years old. His first 3 years in Italy, he scored 16, 10, 15 in all competitions. At 26 years old he took off.

Zaza is hard working, he's hungry to improve, and seems to have a decent eye for goal. We're not going to sign some 30mm+ striker, so I'd be willing to give someone like him a chance, see what he can do. It's likely he never amounts to more than a decent-good rotation option. But what starting 23 year old strikers can you get for 15 million today?

And anybody putting out an argument against La liga suggesting it's shit now is deluded, however yeah for a good part of Llorente's Bilbao career, the teams in the league seemed to be able to do anything BUT defend with any degree of success. Not really due to quality but the mentality. You'd see small teams going balls in against all of the other teams and getting hammered in the process.


Llorente was a very useful player at Bilbao with an attack built around him, but if people call him 'World Class' then those people need to share some of their class A drugs with me.

He's not even close to being 'World Class' never has been, never will be. When did the bar become so low, even if you factor in Juve bias it's still ridiculous.

What makes you think Zaza isnt another Amauri? Amauri at Palermo was arguably even looking better than Zaza.

Zaza plays in Nazionale with lots of confidence while surrounded by much better players than he is in Sass or Amauri was in Palermo. I think he's not affraid of big expectations.

I really hope we avoid Zaza. Llorente isnt performing sure but Zaza really doesnt look like having any talent at all.

If we let go of immobile who topped the Serie A scoring charts with an average team for 10 mills then we definitely shouldn't get a player who has showed much less for 15 mill. Atleast with Llorente we know he has the talent and the experience but is just going through bad form. Only a little over half a year ago he was banging in the goals. With Morata we have seen flashes of brilliance with Madrid and his potential merited our interest but with Zaza we know nothing at all.

Its better to alternate between llorente and Morata than Zaza and Morata.

If Llorente doesn't improve until the end of the season he has to be sold. He's a top 5 earner here if I'm not mistaken but in fact he didn't do jack shit this season. We're not a charity organization. In fact he'll be 30yo very soon on a big salary contract with very poor form and actually not suiting our style.
Zaza will suit our game much more, he's in a very good age to take next step in his career. Sure none of us know how he will do when he comes here but he doesn't look fragile to me at all. Strong, aggressive with willingness to run and fight with defenders. He's faster than Llorente and better with ball at his feet. Decent finishing and very strong left foot.

While I agree that Zaza is a gamble it doesn't change the fact Llorente will have to leave if he doesn't improve. I'll take a risk of giving a chance to Zaza instead of waiting for Llorente to come back to himself. Also because of the fact Zaza will be cheaper than keeping Llorente. If Zaza turns out to be good we'll have a better forward, younger and also costing us less. If he doesn't we save some money while we'll have a chance sell him which won't be the case with Llorente due to his age and salary.

It's not a perfect situation to choose from but the financial constraints are there. It's useless to delude ourselves we can do better when forwards cost so much these days.
