The one thing Zaza has going for him is that he's 23. Wasn't Matri 27 when we signed him? Italian strikers, (or maybe just Italian players in general) seem to take longer than others to reach potential, so perhaps he's still a year away from being at his best. He'd be a decent long-term rotation option if we are getting rid of Llorente in the summer. He certainly hasn't shown anything to suggest he could be our starting XI striker long-term, not if we want to continue to progress.

His stats are pretty good this season (goal every 167 minutes) compared to the last (goal every 255 minutes). So he is improving at least.

Also, 3/5 of Sassuolo's wins came when he wasn't playing :shifty:

Comparing Zaza with Matri really is a dull joke gone horribly wrong. Zaza's dribbling, ball control and shooting skills are far superior. Maybe, just maybe his positioning in the box isn't that good but -guess what- that can be taught and he's 4 years younger than Matri when we bought him.

If he doesn't impress it actually gives a chance to Morata to grow if Llorente is sold. Because right now, his talent is wasted.

I dont buy into that but oh well....it seems he can be better than llorente anyways,.
I don't really either. Like The Curr said, it's more a case of the better Italian teams being ass-backwards about giving young players time on the pitch. It seems that Juve, for example, want to leave young players out on loan/co-own for years, regardless of whether they impress or not.

I'd bring Zaza over Llorente any day. Both are currently bench options on a good team, yet Zaza has much lower wages, and has much more room for improvement.
