OK, money, territory, oil, etc... actually, I'd say very few wars are because of pride and/or revenge.

But you do have a point.
Money, territory and oil may have been the reasons for wars starting, but a lot of wars have continued on for generations, fueled by pure hatred, without the participants even knowing why it started in the first place

I just don't get humans. I'm naive. What's so hard about peace? Why do people support corruption? Why do people want to destroy things? WHY? What's the whole friggin point? Can't we all in this world have good moraled politicians who would create peace for all of us? Why does everything has to create problems? Why not be friends?
Because human nature is self-centered. Humans think of themselves and their security (in financial and social terms) as top priority.

Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, the wellbeing of an individual is placed way above the wellbeing of a society as a whole.

I think that money, territory etc. are just fueling the wars. Most brutal conflicts in modern days- in Europe, Africa and the former Soviet Union are ethnic conflicts- when one nation literally hates the other. The time when wars were mainly ideological- World wars, Korea, Viet Nam, Afganistan (invaded by the Soviets) is gone.

But money increadibly fuel conflicts. The US has spent $75 billion in Iraq in 2003, and appropriated another $87 billion for 2004. Yesterday the Congress passed the budget of $2,7 trillion, with increased spending on "homeland security".

Whenever there is a war- it creates necessity for firearms, amunitions, clothes, food, petrol, all kinds of things. Somebody is making lots of money on all that and they certainly don't want these conflicts to stop for obvious reasons.

Zlatan - that is not true. Graham was much closer.

WWII, for example, started because the German nation had been hugely humiliated after the end of the first world war. Out to seek revenge and prove the Reich was indeed a very powerful nation, they occupied two thirds of the European Continent with emphasis on their biggest rivals France and Holland.

Wars begin over religions (the 80 year war between Holland and Spain in the 17th century over a conflict between Catholicism and Protestantism) or over territory (the Cyprus wars) or over language (the Belgian conflicts) or over repression (the Irish conflicts) or over trade (the French occupation of the Dutch city of Dunkerk which is actually still 'occupied'. It's position is of high value).

Over money? Rarely.

I was just thinking about how much money the US has spent on the war in Iraq. I heard they dropped $80 million worth of bombs on buildings to destroy them. Don't u think $80m worth of anything would raise hell!? Imagine them dropping $80m worth of fridges or something all over the place.

If anything, they could've bribed every single soldier in Iraq to surrender with that money

Then do you think the War in Iraq is more than just about the Oil and other internal benifits for the US economy?

I know there's more to it, but i'd like to read you think.

see Graham, why must Country A bomb Country B in the first place? thats what I mean.

It's in human's nature and all yes but I just think it's a tad bit sad. To fight over religion, to fight for money, or even to fight for something based on history when it happened years ago and you still continue it. Yeeek.

Well there's always a start. Maybe it's about territory, oil or money as Zlatan said. The point is, when a war starts, the reason most of them go unresolved is because of the infinite loop i described
