I think this is clearly deserved warning.

Even if DP isn't your fav player, he is our captain & deserves respect.

Although the language used was crass and juvenile, it seeded to me nothing other than a school-yard rumble. A bit of name calling and the odd punch thrown: boys will be boys: lets shake hands and move on.

Back to topic of this thread the difficulty here (I have no idea why some advocates of DP dragged the very great Zizou in to it) is what is the definition of best. Do we mean the most skillful and talented, or the most loyal (but to be honest DP fans, Alex never in my knowledge had that loyalty tested by another massive club trying to buy him, that would have tested his and the boards loyalty), the player with the most titles, or the best looking. Or even the one one just feel most close to.

For me the Best means, the most talented and therefore Ol' Lovely Eyes doesn't past muster. There are at least two better.

in terms of sheer football ability i would say platini is the greatest followed by zidane.
however, we have grown up watching alex, he has been our spiritual leader on the park, the link between team and fans and he has been captain through some of our most succesful times.del boy will have a special place in our hearts when you look at the fact he stayed with us after relegation, do you honestly think zidane or platini would have? these are the qualities we look for in a "great" player, not simply skill.
remember zizou won very little in turin and we actually inproved as a team when we sold him, we had more balance with nedved in the team. make of that what you will

When when he was 22?

No there has never been such a bid. And what I find very surprising I can not remember anything other than gossip about a transfer(Tuttosport!.) There has never been an occasion where a substantial bid has been mooted or an incoming President of a major Spanish side has promised his signature, or a Russian Oligarch has set their sites on him, or a Rival team has tried to destabilise him ect...

Why do Alex fans always say "We" when they mean I?

In answer to your question about Zizou and Platini: well if they where in their 30's then maybe they would have, but lets be honest about Alex and his staying, who exactly was going to come up with anything other than Peanuts for him this summer. The fact is those who left attracted substantial amounts of money and those who might have left eg Trez would have brought very large bids indeed. Alex, as great a servant to Juve as he is, would have had to be virtually given away, and what side would pay his wages?

Haven't you ever thought that big clubs don't go for him, cause they're like: "Juve won't let him go anyway" ? :eyebrows:

Alessandro Del Piero is 5th top scorer in CL history (after Raul, Shevchenko, Van Nistelrooy and Henry).

Just for the record :D

actually i disagree with that, for a start a lot of the top japanese clubs would have been prepared to pay his wages, and other clubs in italy (i remember carlo ancelotti stating he would definately have del piero in his team and the palermo coach of last year stating del piero would be a great signing for them) and just because not that many clubs tried to buy ale does not suggest much, as when were there many clubs trying to buy paolo maldini from ac milan? you have to remember as well that dle piero is a very marketable player and a club would recieve alot of money back from signing him

Anybody sees Zidane's name here? Thought so ;)

PS I know he scored a screamer in 2002 final :D

Yeah: probably the best goal he ever scored, or for that matter, anyone ever scored.

Best goal I have ever seen. I don't think there is another player I have ever seen who could have contorted their body so, remained balanced and hit the target.

Bloody wonderful.
