I think you must be alluding to older ppl, particularly women. To put it like Nick, a bit of "junk in the trunk" never hurt anyone but it is true that, unfortunately, they tend to develop a pear-like bottom when they're aging, and this may be somewhat related to our diet. But young ppl? I think a majority of young Italians are thin and well-proportioned, and comparatively we certainly aren't the fattest in Europe (I read somewhere that the title goes to Germany, followed by Britain). I have been quite positively surprised by Belgian cuisine btw, though as anybody you're not immune from this fast-growing fattening of the population phenomenon we're witnessing (I've put up weight myself since I live here, but that must have to do with other factors - stress and my passing of the quarter of a century threshold). Speaking of which, why don't you tell us what's wrong with Belgium?
I was talking about southern Italians btw. Northern Italians look a bit different I guess.

Latvia..

I love my country. It has beautiful countryside (it takes 90% of all country), football is in high level too (remember Euro04), hockey too if anybody is interested in it here, we have most beautiful girls in N-Europe.
BUT we are so poor - the inflation, high gas prices it wouldn't be so bad if our country wouldn't have smallest wages in Europe
I'm of Lithuanian descent, so I can at least spot you on a map. ;)

Anyway, your comments about the beautiful girls in N Europe reminded me of the Portugal vs. Latvia WC 2006 qualifier earlier this year in Riga. While places like Germany during the recent Confed Cup had their share of ugly and stupid locos run out on the pitch (as the Spanish language announcer called them here), in that match Latvia had a not too unattractive topless woman run out on the pitch. That's more like it. ;)

Whats wrong with my country?

Were the fifth oil producers in the World and we provide about 10% of the oil America uses. The oil prices are really high right now and this country is worse than ever and its because our current president. He is a disguised dictator, has commited crimes against humanity, cheated in various elections that would get him and his political party more power, supports his own terrorism groups here in the country AND the colombian guerrilla, now has created hate between the social races making the inferior hate the wealthy and he is making the wealthy have less money and the poor become poorer

Also corruption. Oh and were like the most dangerous country in all South America. Murder/crime rates are really high esp in the capital

Corruption at all levels of the Government....number 1 reason why the Government is so broke...( I hate good loving type of people who are soft spoken and are nice to many people but behind all that they are prime corrupters and enjoy the luxury of riches at the expense of the country)

Many Untouchables who are way above the law....No Justice

No Equality ( Money buys everything, and having none would be disasterous)

The Supreme Judge is Emotional and Stupid......heck.....
All state Officials and Staffs are Stupid and Selfish!

Nobody in Power thinks for the Country....

NO FUTURE....

My country is TRASH! Absolute Trash (well at least the people in power) !!!!

I can think of 30 ways to greatly improve the country, all of which, involve assasinations :nasty: :nasty: :nasty:....

I think the biggest problem with my country is how it believes the solution to crime is the heaviest criminal punishments possible and valuing deterrence above all else.

Instead of the salad bowl theory, a new comparison has appeared in the past year (since the killing of Van Gogh and the events directly related to that afterwards): the so called Mix of chemicals. If you put different chemicals in a bowl; chances are that they won't respond well to each other and after sitting in the same space for a while, seemingly quiet and peaceful but brewing instead; they will burst out into flames or explode.
I would tell you what that chemical state is called but for the life of me I can't remember it. Must have repressed that chemistry class I barely passed. :sigh:

Btw this thread has become a handsome excercise in presenting your country in the worst possible light, as well as trying to top earlier entries. While not noticeably noble, perhaps, at least it provides for a rare intellectual challenge around these parts.

But just to take a quick a dirty example, I love complaints like this:

++ [ originally posted by David Del Piero ] ++
-Alcohol: Systembolaget has monopoly of the booze here in Sweden and its expensive, only ppl above 20 can buy booze legally here.
First it's alcohol sold too expensive, we are responsible enough to make our own decisions, citizens govern themselves :blah: On the other hand, there are always far too many problems connected directly or indirectly to alcohol - traffic casualties, physical abuse in the home, liver disease, poor (or expensive) health care, not enough rehab clinics :blah:

Oh and apparently us Polish have a reputation for being among the biggest complainers in Europe. On that note, several people here can verify that I have the characteristic. Oddly enough, at this moment, I don't consider my country to be a bad place at all.

That's not the point. This is social studies, not science :D

SWEDEN:

-Taxes: Way too high, highest in the world, and still LOUSY hospitals and stuff. You can wait for years before you can be operated sometimes. and there isnt enough doctors. The waiting time before you can see the doctor is at least 5 hours...
This is because the country is full of immigrants that are not given decent jobs, instead you see doctors flipping burgers at McDonalds.

++ [ originally posted by David Del Piero ] ++
-Laws and Punishment: This is really shameful. Someone can kill a guy and walks free afters a few years. Someone can rape a girl and he is free after like 2 years...
At the same time you see a rioter getting the same sentence as a murderer.

Probably one of the best things that the government is able to control in Sweden, knowing how the drinking culture is. Other than that, the know-how that SB provides cannot be found in any other country.

++ [ originally posted by David Del Piero ] ++
-How we treat elders: Sweden really sucks with this. The elder care is really B A D. I think elders should be respected and not stomped on.
Such a shame how the pension system is. A person after working all his/her life and paying that sum of taxes does not deserve this kind of retirement.

-The weather: Here in Gothenburg is really bad. At summer it's okay, but most of the time it rains. Especially at winter. It's really RARE with a white christmas. And it is spring until december... hhahaha!!
No comment :D

I'm sorry to hear that and even more sorry my country doesn't do anything to help you :(
It's ok, I think it can't be solved by foriegn help...it has to be internal, a local person to step up or else people here would just hate your country or any other that tries to intervine. Honestly, lots of religious people here talk about how bad foriegners are and about the US' policies (which I do agree to some extent), but they don't realize that the biggest damages are caused by locals.

The country is just so divided and people think individually(up to relatives and family) but I see not many having good intentions to help the people in general.

It wasn't like this during the reign of our first president, but then again perhaps the solidarity was still felt then after the battles against colonialism.

Its such a mess Erik, I have to tell my self to stop thinking about it and just go on with my business.
Just last week they started implimenting a new regulation at the Airport. There is no pick-up lane, it is reserved for licensed taxis and officials, everyone else has to enter the parking area which you have to pay a minimum of 3.000,- rupiahs (about 30cents but ofcourse with a higher local value). I can't recall ever visiting an Airport where you can't just come and quickly pick some one up. This new regulation is also causing alot of traffic there, cause now all vehicles must look for parking space no matter what. Thieves in Suits I tell ya.

At the same time you see a rioter getting the same sentence as a murderer.
Here, the son of former president Soeharto was convicted for big scandal about 2-3 years ago. The judge who sentenced him or who was on the case was killed not long after the sentance or case.

This 'son' later was found guilty for masterminding the murder of this highly ranked judge and was sentanced to 7 years in prison. 7 years??? Now after only serving 2-3 years his lawyer is working on getting him out on perol after serving 2/3 of his sentance with good behaviour.

More recently a guy charged of corrupting on two accounts for a total of about US$100,000(perhaps less, I dont recall) is facing a 20year sentance.

WTF? Murdering a judge (sort of like a supreme judge) only 7 years jail time? Corruption 20 years? and then perol? since when is 2/3 of 7 years equal to 3years?

After that murder, there hasn't been any other judge who is brave enough to go after the BIG UNTOUCHABLESS, only the small sacrificed and sometimes cornered people get convicted or exposed.

That's horrible
Yeah, luckily many people are somewhat religious so to some extent they are enduring any/all problems and seeing them as mere test to their will and faith.

Unfortunately with this mentality nobody will challange the corruptors seriously enough. Perhaps even if I had the power to challange I might think twice.

1. Live long, happy life knowing others suffer and I do nothing.

2. Strive to help others and be selfsatisfied with it but living a shorter life :groan:.

Tough Call
