Ever been to Castello di Banfi near Montalcino? I was there last year. Great estate and excellent wine and all, but my wife, a native of Napa, couldn't help but feel that she was back home. Not just the surroundings, but the same pinheads with sweaters around their necks speaking New Jersey English as you'd find up the Napa Valley.

Next time I'm going to eat there, though. They have what looks like a pretty awesome restaurant.

Fattoria del Teso....my grandfather worked the vines. I have looked in the US for it for over 20 years. Saw it an Italian restaurant in SF once, and didn't think to ask :down:

Anyone know where I can get it in the US?

I'm not familiar with the others...I'll have to check them out.

Other labels I really like include Gaja (of course! *wink to Nick* ), Antinori (another wink to Nick for the Tignanello), Ceretto (Bricho Roche, Zonchero, etc.)...

One of my favorites that I've never found in the States is Taurasi, who made the original Taurasi. I first had one of those in Napoli (it's grown east of Avellino). Loved it so much I tried to ship a couple home. The Italian post office loved it so much I never received it. :down:

Currently the part of my collection worth mentioning is:

Tignanello (4 bottles) 2: 1997's and 2 2000's.
Tenuta San Guido, Sassicaia, 1999.
Guado al Tasso Antinori: 2000.
Barbaresco (Angelo Gaya!)

My favorite wine remains the Montepulciano's (Abruzzo) which in my opinion beats any wine 'pound for pound' (price and quality)..

Agreed that the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo hits that value category, especially as an export.

Sure have (been to Montalcino)....doesn't look like the rest of Toscana, for some reason (to me that is; others might think I'm nuts)

We ate at a place that was an enoteca....I'll try and find the name.

8 ounces chicken breast in salad with tomatoes, hot peppers, and lite balsamic vinagrette (eat it every day)

my fav types of food-

Italian (chicken cacciatore when I want to eat healthy...lots of pizza or lasagna when I'm not !!)

Greek (chicken souvlaki anyone ??)

Vietnamese (pho- beef noodle soup, and both fresh and deep fried spring rolls)

Japanese (chicken or beef teriyaki, fried right in front of you on that big sheet of hot metal....banzai !!!!)

Chinese (meet my friend "dim sum !!")

Mexican (fajitas are good)

Deep dish is carp (IMHO )

I like the ones in Italy...

Crust like a tortilla, a little tomato paste, some cheese (ie, not drowning in it) and prosciutto.

Quattro stagioni. Yum.
