You wanna talk over-rated? Truffles.
For the price, I would have to agree. You're spot on.

My wife, the chef, however, begs do differ. She buys the cheaper/travel-ready tubes of the stuff in Italy and puts it in her scrambled eggs. (Just don't confuse it for toothpaste! ;) )

Where does she get it? That sounds awesome, actually.

Wonder if it'd be good in a risotto?

Hmm...I can smell sausage getting fried in olive oil from down in the basement. I assume I am having spaghettini with garlic and oil, mixed with sausage and sun-dried tomatoes.

It's very simple. Someone digged up the recipe once which was called "Spaghetti Torinese", at least 15 years ago. It's the only thing I've learnt to do well, I can't cook. But you can use any kind of pasta just as well.

Grab 2-3 carrots, an onion and half a leek, cut into small pieces (you wanna use a food processor for the carrots). Then throw it in a pan, dump some olive oil and let it mature for 10 minutes. Now you need some (500g) meatloaf, throw it in the pan and hack to pieces with a fork, mix with the rest. Once the meatloaf starts getting brown, season with salt and pepper (and whathever you like). Then unload a can of tomatoes in the pan, wait till it starts sizzling and you're done.

Cook the pasta (I prefer penne) al dente separately.
