As far as I know there are no word-for-word translations of the Qur'an. It wouldn't make sense to do that. If I started translating Swedish or Urdu into English word-for-word it wouldn't make any sense.

Besides, the Qur'anic Arabic is called Classical Arabic iirc and the various dialects of Arabic spoken today are a lot different. I know Arabs from UAE that don't understand Moroccan Arabic for example.

I think it's also important here to note that one of the beauties of the Qur'an is that it lets the reader interpret it him/herself within some reasonable flex. I'm not talking about Wahabi's and Talibans here but the Muslims that are in grand majority and go unnoticed, people like myself, Fred, Osman, etc. I mean, what other religious text will tell you "La Ikraha Fiddin" - There is no compulsion in religion" and "Lakum Deenokum Walia Deen" - Your religion and belief is for you and my religion and belief is for me.
You remember that once I talked you about this guy that "sung" the Qur'an? It was amazing

I think I am about to accomplish one of the most difficult human endeavors, admit I was wrong. I truly was.

I realized that when I attempted to explain God's characteristics to some of the members on this forum, I was blinded by my own understanding of something that I had not yet comprehended. I put faith in classical religious definitions of God without considering what I honestly think.

Here's what I have come to realize recently after a lot of thinking. God's nature is unknowable, if someone claims to know the true nature of God, that person is lying.

The truth is we do not know, nor will we ever know. I am still a Christian but I don't believe the Bible is the whole truth, maybe part of the truth but certainly not the entire truth. It may depict part of the image, but not all of it. I am going to borrow a brilliant parable from Anthony De Mello, a great spiritualist and probably the most authentic one of our time. This really demonstrates how blinded religious people are like.

- There was once a blind man that wanted to know what the color green was like so he asked me and I said, " It is like soft music". The next day another blind man comes and askes me, feeling a little akward, I answer," It is soft like silk". The next day the two blind men are screaming at each other violently, one says,"The color green is like soft silk" while the other replies, " No, it's like soft music" While neither of them know what green really is.

Maybe that's what it feels like to you, but it's really just a daily occurrence. When people are less afraid of being wrong, they accomplish more. :)

Green is how we perceive light around a wavelength of 500nm or so. There's nothing terribly mysterious to it. The interesting question is: when I see green, and you see green, do we experience the same thing internally, or do we just share a label for it? We don't know enough about the brain to answer that. God has no wavelength.

If our eyes, brains and everything else that is relevant in both of us are identical than we should experience the same thing. but again, how can i be sure that what i experience and name eyes is the same thing that you see and experience as eyes....so we wouldnt be able to compare. either way, you can never have access to my inner self and i can never have access to your inner self.

One more step left to rich the right place, that's being agnostic! The middle ground, where you don't believe or care about these, just don't jump on the other side, atheism!

I don't believe but i care and i am always expanding my readings and my knowledge to have better judgment...specifically for this topic. Religion used to be a big part of me.

I'd say Keep an open mind.. don't stop caring.

I think you missed the entire point of the story.
