Lol no. It just means a day off work as financial institutions are closed that day. We have an extra one this summer for the Queen's platinum jubilee celebrations. Should run nicely alongside Prince Andrew's trial.

Of course I'm being facetious. In a way, I have to give the UK credit for just saying, "Look... we just get the day off. Who dafuq cares why'?"

But every other country pours purpose and reason and national identity in theirs. I find it odd that Portugal has a number of Catholic holidays as bank holidays, and yet nobody really observes -- or recognizes -- the religious origins.

In the UK holidays come as standard with any new job, by law. Almost all 5 day week jobs have a minimum of 28 days holiday, including Bank Holidays.

I suppose it depends on the job or circumstances whether people take all of them but in some cases you might be too busy or not want to take them, in that case you could check if your employer will carry them over to the next working year or see if they will buy them off you, there are other forms of accrument as well. Ask HR or your payroll team.

Yeah, I'm already aware of my company's policy on this. You can only carry 5 days over on the condition you tried to take this time off but weren't allowed by your manager.

They don't compensate us for unused holidays either so I guess they are encouraging us to take time off.

Seems normal. I just take it off. Some jobs have paid me instead if I'm short of a few.

If you are talking about the ethics of taking time off then absolutely it's normal to use them all.

I'm turning 29 in August of this year. I've been with the gf for over 3 years and a part of me doesn't want to stay with the same woman even though I love her.

I feel too young to commit but also too old to be single and looking for tiddies on weekends. How are other tuzzers doing in this regard?

I wish the US had some sort of a system in which you could take a whole month off and still get paid.

That would be insane though. Insane like a national system where your neighbor could get medically treated with preventative care before they either get your neighbors infected with a deadly disease or crater the finances of your local hospital by only showing up for emergency care. Just nuts.

I follow @Quetzalcoatl 's response, and it has merit. To balance some of that, odds are that you will never be with someone where you don't have occasional feelings of not wanting to stay with the same woman.

That whole age 29/30 thing looking for tiddies on weekends is a grind. If you have a system down that works for you (see: @GordoDeCentral ), it's a good lifestyle. But if you ultimately see yourself wanting to be with someone later in life, that first has to come from you more than it comes from who you happen to be with at the time.

Its crazy to me you dont. The last year pre covid (2019) I took 39 days straight vacation. My cousins in the US were looking at me like a mad man when I told them, because 2 of them only ever had 10-11 days at longest.

Yeah, I don't see myself later in life looking for ladies on a weekly basis. What I'm feeling right now is "one last dance" to chase hoochie and then call it a day and settle down. It just feels like that window is closing down.

And while my girlfriend is smart, funny, blah blah, all the things you'd want in a woman, she likes to spend and live in the now which doesn't match my financial goals. I'm a Jew rat that likes to save for the future. Ahh!

This is weird since you strike me as textbook consooomer who would spent $200 a week on vanity and party shit. But as always the truth lies somewhere in the middle: stupid to not set funds aside for your future - equally stupid to deny yourself small moments of joy in everyday life . Frugalists will live in the future until their deaths, then they'll have wasted their best days.

I exaggerated the Jew rat bit. I like to save for future investment and new ventures but I also like to travel and spend on experiences and I do so by sacrificing certain luxuries and restricting frequent road trips, etc.. sacrifice some areas and use that budget on the things I truly want to do.
