What's going on with the US and this weather (I mean winter, not storms)? Correct me if I'm mistaken, maybe I wasn't paying attention in the past, but I can't seem to recall the US having such cold winters with huge snow. Is that a new thing that happened over the past couple of years?
storms and snow have always been a thing in the northeast. When I first moved here in March of 2004, there was nearly a foot of snow, took some getting used to. And it’s always been cold af in winter.

Well it depends on where in the US specifically of course, but the north east is usually like this once January rolls around. This one was wild https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_blizzard_of_2006

We just had our coldest Christmas in history here in the PNW. After having breaking all our rainfall records in November and having massive flooding and landslides. After having the hottest summer we’ve ever seen. Weather is all kinds of strange extremes this year
On the East coast, we've had several mild winters in a row now, with limited snow. It's possible it changes this year. On the West coast, they always get some form of crazy weather, and it's not surprising for the mountains that face the Pacific to get 5 feet of snow with some of the heavy systems that come ashore combined with the upsloping effect. The real story recently has been the December tornado outbreak in the Southeast, which is highly abnormal. But that can be attributed to the massive troughs digging through the country to create serious cold slamming against hot and humid airmasses, which is more of Spring-like pattern.

wow, i'd love to have something similar here, especially if it comes with a snow of 1m or even more. unseen since my childhood.
Where you at in Europe?

It takes a lot of prerequisites here to get a massive snow storm. But it is fun.

This one was the craziest I can remember. Feet of snow from GA to NH. Perfect slow track all the way up the coast, doesn't get better than that.
