How exactly did vaccine help when you have crashed medical system? Huge chunk of people took the vaccine. Situation with the hospitals is exactly the same like before. If so many people took the vaccine then how come hospitals aren't at 50-60% capacity?

Because the infection rate has gone way up.

Besides the majority of people in IC is not vaccinated (at worst it's a 50/50 ratio). This is odd, because only a very small minority of Dutch in general are not vaccinated. Surely if the vaccines didn't work, you'd expect the majority in IC to be vaccinated, which is simply not the case.

Hospitals in the Netherlands are once again sending patients to Germany. They are postponing organ transplants and chemotherapy. Many of them are having to turn away patients not in critical condition. If infections kept going at the same rate, there wouldn't be enough ICU beds. These are real things that are happening. Listen, I hate these lockdowns as much as anyone. That's why i left and came here for a while. But really what else is the solution, something has to be done to stop the healthcare system from being overwhelmed.

I would say that you can always return home for a visit but due to the carbon rationing to come that's not gonna be possible for much longer. So get those goodbyes in properly.

I never left but I always had that feeling just thinking about the scenario. Having a decent pay here would make me MUCH more happy than going abroad for a great pay. IMO I'd lose more, despite the healthier financial situation which is pretty much a guarantee.

But I'm yet to hear an alternative way to deal with these rising infections. One that does not cause the healthcare system to be overloaded. I hate these lockdowns, I would be for any realistic alternative.

Oh and I'm not saying governments have dealt with this pandemic well at all. At least in NL, they've flipped and flopped, opening the country completely in September and October and then realizing what we knew all along, that vaccines don't stop transmission. I'm not defending government handling of the pandemic, but regardless of who caused the mess we are in right now, the fact is hospitals will not be able to cope with the sheer number of hospitalizations that would have inevitably happened.

For me, not only was i very sad when leaving, but i was homesick for the first 3-4 months. Every day i thought wtf have i done haha. You eventually grow out of it, and start a new life, friends, etc. Now tbh i can't imagine leaving the Netherlands/Amsterdam.

But i think what you're feeling is completely normal.

There's a difference between capitalism and profiteering, paying off politicians to exclusively push your product is not capitalism it's racketeering. Also as much of a fan as I am of capitalism, i won't deny its failings, but to me it's still by far the best system.

I can only speak for Belgium, but the biggest issue does not seem to be capacity in terms of material rather the lack of enough qualified nurses.
