I'm surprised at the scale of it, but not that it happened on the first place. I've seen similar things happen in Goa, so it's not surprising at all that they'd take advantage of the situation and the lax mentality of the police to get away with such shit. Seven was right. India is a shitty place.
What I didn't expect was the follow up to Cologne's NYE to be Bangalore's. So yeah, it's probably the scale. And here just a couple months ago I was telling a friend, "A single woman can walk downtown Bangalore without being hassled at 10pm... that's not normally the case in the U.S."
But at least I saved my ass in telling her that for everything true in India, the exact opposite is also true. NYE would be it.
I'm surprised Goa would be more of a place for that -- but perhaps that has to do with more of the "party" vibe the state takes on.
And Bangalore overall seems less likely than other parts of India to harbor the backwards types who do that crap as a sort of last-gasp resentment for losing their gender-dominant place in society.
Guess everybody has been influenced by Tone Lōc telling us to do the "Wild Thing".... it is really sad.
