Huge fire at home (two floors are pitch black because of the smoke) last night, so I'll spend months renovating. We were working on the house anyway, so I guess at least we weren't done yet, but still kind of sucks that our work has gone up in flames. Fortunately the structure of the house itself should be okay.

dunno about the ownership structure of that house but have you considered a home insurance?

Everything's insured. I am an insurance lawyer, so the minute I moved in I had an insurance broker come over to get the home insurance fixed. He came over yesterday and he said that in fact we might benefit from the whole thing. That is to say financially we might lose a bit here and there (not everything is paid back at full price), but we'll probably be able to have professionals renovate our house for a fraction of the price we'd pay otherwise, as the insurance company will have to pay most of their fees.

My main worry now is the time it will take to fix everything. And then there's the fact we had already put a lot of work in that house of course.

Bang her only if you never intend to marry her.

Sorry to hear this. Hopefully everything turns out better than you think in the end.

Say... my Bengaluru homies...

WTF happened New Year's Eve down by MG Road and all? Are any of you surprised?
I'm surprised at the scale of it, but not that it happened on the first place. I've seen similar things happen in Goa, so it's not surprising at all that they'd take advantage of the situation and the lax mentality of the police to get away with such shit. Seven was right. India is a shitty place.

What I didn't expect was the follow up to Cologne's NYE to be Bangalore's. So yeah, it's probably the scale. And here just a couple months ago I was telling a friend, "A single woman can walk downtown Bangalore without being hassled at 10pm... that's not normally the case in the U.S."

But at least I saved my ass in telling her that for everything true in India, the exact opposite is also true. NYE would be it.

I'm surprised Goa would be more of a place for that -- but perhaps that has to do with more of the "party" vibe the state takes on.

And Bangalore overall seems less likely than other parts of India to harbor the backwards types who do that crap as a sort of last-gasp resentment for losing their gender-dominant place in society.

Guess everybody has been influenced by Tone Lōc telling us to do the "Wild Thing".... it is really sad.
