No. In reality it's extremely rare for overweight people to eat healthy and work out a lot. I know they claim to, but they don't. It just almost doesn't happen.
Actually, I know of a few people that would be medically diagnosed as "overweight" but yet work out more than my skinny ass and are more fit to do things like climb mountains and all.

It's the exception, but sometimes metabolism is a beyootch.

Grow and cook your own food, folks.
That last bit is probably the #1 determinant to health and weight.

If you don't like GMOs, never eat an apple.
That's true. I did find an organic apple stand near Shenandoah Junction though, thankfully.

Indeed. Plus it's fun, you know? Cooking is great, growing a garden is a great hobby. We have 16 tomato plants and several garden boxes filled with basel, thyme, cucumbers, squash, et cetera. Saves money in the long run and way better than any crap at the store.

Still a GMO. Apples have been genetically modified for about 200 years. Organic doesn't indicate, not GMO. An organic apples are kind of laughable. Most have some application of pesticide. Though I'm pretty sure in order to gave the Organic designation from the USDA you have to us biocides.

Most fruits and vegetables are GMO in some fashion, even if they're organic. It's good to remember that not all GMOs are equal. Sometimes, apples for example, fruits are genetically modified to expand the gene bank due to a potentially devastating disease (fireblight). Others are created to produce more per harvest season. Others to become more healthy.

The problem with our country (where all the fat people live) is that we have far too many processed, genetically modified, pure garbage food at every corner. Whether it be fast food, or the majority of products at the grocery store, they are mostly consisted of chemicals and other stuff nobody can pronounce. My wife and I buy and grow organic vegetables, make our own sauces, and never eat any frozen or processed products. They are the reason for so much obesity and cancer, in my view.

I got into an argument with a guy the other day who said that people who dislike GMO are conspiracy theorists. I asked him, do you mean all of Europe are conspiracy theorists? They either label or ban GMO products. Well, uhhh, uh, uhhhhh. Funny enough, the clown is fat, too.

Grow and cook your own food, folks.
I agree that too much processed food can be harmful. But I feel the price of fastfood is a big problem in the US. It's far more expensive here, so I think that's another stimulant for not buying it too.

Yes. Everything is genetically modified to an extent.

There is a store in Harpers Ferry that has a lot of non-GMO plants that we buy. I have never seen them selling any apple trees, so perhaps that is why. Why do you think America is so fat?

It's getting more expensive, just like everything else. A big Mac meal is now like 7 dollars or something. In order to eat healthy, you do have to pay. But then again, you can feed a whole family on $7 if you're smart. Grow your own veggies ($2 a pack for seeds) and $2 chicken breast, make chicken noodle soup. You can do it, but folks are lazy. This would never happen in Belgium.

What I find weird in America is the taste of vegetables and fruit. They all taste like water. I'm not sure if it's me, but the taste in Europe seems 'fuller'. Not sure if that makes sense, just something both me and my girlfriend noticed.

Food quality and availability of shitty food. Simple as that. Fast food restaurants on every block might as well be liquor stores in the inner city. The fact that you have to look for quality food or grow it your own says it all.

That's certainly true of things like chicken and eggs. American chickens are mutant meat-machines consisting of ginormous genetic breast implants and little muscle.

It's probably just that European smugness. ;)

Sure, that's why I mentioned food quality. I'd say the majority of food in grocery stores is not quality food. Add into that the advertising machine of the US food industry and it isn't surprising to see why people make the choices they do.

I think the biggest reason for obesity is our propensity to chalk everything up to personal responsibility and play the blame game rather than simply demanding a higher standard from the food industry.

man i LOOOVE that shit :p
Man they finally opened one here in Rhode Island. You would have though the Pope was visiting.

Granted, it's not to the level of when an Olive Garden opened in South Dakota and they called it a "Gourmet Italian Restaurant", but still.

Sonic is supposed to be opening up in Rhode Island sometime soon

Chick-fil-A is alright for a fast food joint. Use to eat at one on occasion when I lived in Maryland many years ago.

Though I suppose fil-chick-A is better.

I eat chicken breasts all the time and they're fine. GMO stuff catches way too much shit. It comes down to making bad choices and using food as a comfort. No one is supposed to eat a tub of ice cream in a sitting yet a surprising amount of people do. Skip the drinks at Starbucks loaded with sugar and cream. Think about what you're putting into your body.
