Im pretty sure that almost half the people i grew up with are either in jail, doing serious crime or abusing drugs.

That was true of me in high school. All the people I hung out with in secondary school were all subject to arrests and overdoses. I went to some rather prissy high school where the students were all overachievers and I turned into a rather spiteful rebel who pretty much wanted nothing to do with them or their futures, but I somehow made it out mostly unscathed.

Meanwhile, it was a miracle when I saw some of my secondary school buddies -- who went the way of Dope Fiend High (School) across town -- by the time I was in college, and they had managed to survive long enough to make it to college as well.

Kind of cool, actually. I had Leaving Las Vegas written all over half these dudes.

Depends on the look. Could be bad if you go the hipster route. It's always cool on an old, distinguished look (or an old, distinguished dude). But it can be pulled off ... I think you have a good chance of it, seeing as that you don't look like a hipster who's trying too hard.
