Question to all my Great Danes out there: do the Bilka hypermarkets sell wine? And are they any good at it?
Yes and if you're wine connoisseur no.

Most dead weekend incoming
Was out drinking with Heine Fernandez at his bodega yesterday. A guy I know called and asked if it was okay if he came drinking with 10 guys after closing time. Henine: "yes, just knock three times on the door" :D

Not saying I'll take your opinions into considerations, though

Maybe I will, maybe I won't. But would still be interested in hearing what you guys think about it.

Yours sincerely,

This is awesome. Yours truly has created something of a shit storm in the twittersphere and blogosphere among the coffee cognoscenti right now. :weee:

Ooh, details please!
What now? You shit in the wrong mans coffee can?
It's actually kind of amusing. There's been a lot of recent chat among the usual coffee snobs about the long-standing problem of bad coffee at fine restaurants. One of the big threads on Twitter, etc., has been about the coffee service at Noma (the Danes are everywhere!!), which is decidedly trying to buck that trend.

But for what's rated as the #1 restaurant in the world, where it's all about unique experiences you can have no where else, I kind of called out the emperor for being naked -- as what they're doing is rather mundane and pedestrian for most good coffee shops in major cities all around the world. Nothing special that matches the same elevated standards they apply to their food. I basically said that Noma was receiving accolades for what was essentially a culinary cop-out.

So a number of bigger names in the coffee world jumped in to get snarky, saying it's all about quality and so what. So much so, that a famous coffee blog literally removed all of their Facebook commenting features, and all of its historical comments, right in the middle of my debate with him about this on his blog. A sort of "I don't like what you're saying, so I'm going to remove all my commenting features." So I blogged about that.

Just when I was feeling like I was all alone on this, one of the biggest guns in the online coffee discussion world (a Canadian, btw ;)) came out clearly in my defense and supporting my points on my blog. And he's not a guy who gets all chummy with people: he backs ideas or opinions rather than the people making them.

It will be curious how the shit storm plays out in the next few days. I usually get into something like at this level this once every year or two. Stirs the pot.
