It's actually kind of amusing. There's been a lot of recent chat among the usual coffee snobs about the long-standing problem of bad coffee at fine restaurants. One of the big threads on Twitter, etc., has been about the coffee service at Noma (the Danes are everywhere!!), which is decidedly trying to buck that trend.

But for what's rated as the #1 restaurant in the world, where it's all about unique experiences you can have no where else, I kind of called out the emperor for being naked -- as what they're doing is rather mundane and pedestrian for most good coffee shops in major cities all around the world. Nothing special that matches the same elevated standards they apply to their food. I basically said that Noma was receiving accolades for what was essentially a culinary cop-out.

So a number of bigger names in the coffee world jumped in to get snarky, saying it's all about quality and so what. So much so, that a famous coffee blog literally removed all of their Facebook commenting features, and all of its historical comments, right in the middle of my debate with him about this on his blog. A sort of "I don't like what you're saying, so I'm going to remove all my commenting features." So I blogged about that.

Just when I was feeling like I was all alone on this, one of the biggest guns in the online coffee discussion world (a Canadian, btw ;)) came out clearly in my defense and supporting my points on my blog. And he's not a guy who gets all chummy with people: he backs ideas or opinions rather than the people making them.

It will be curious how the shit storm plays out in the next few days. I usually get into something like at this level this once every year or two. Stirs the pot.
Didn't know people got that jumped up over coffee :D

That was a good read Swag

My local coffee shop just put up their prices by 50 cent, to cover the increase in cost for the milk! Absolutely absurd, they're still cheaper than any other cafes close by, but that bangs of a rip off in my books.

real men drink it black

Twist of lime? Onion bagel with cream cheese?

I swear you Europeans ruin everything.

So many people order milk in their coffee that you have to raise the price of coffee? Then you're no longer running a coffee shop, you milk man!
:D

Each to their own, I don't mind an 'americano' from time to time, but I just prefer a caffe latte personally
