That's nice though. Most people around here want to start their new gig as soon as they quit the old one. I never understood that. If you are joining some place new, you might as well take a good break in the middle.

It's also a rare opportunity to decide that you're not going to be working for x amount of time. When you're between gigs then for once you decide how long you want to be away.

Ugh, I tried the new ubuntu release from a few days ago. They literally have an amazon icon sitting on the task bar now. How sad for such a great project to have such a sad ending.

What? They have an amazon search app in the menu? Damn! This is no smartphone with a preinstalled OS... The success of mobile devices and their touchscreen interfaces has had a negative impact on OS interfaces in genereal. Unity as well as GNOME 3 appear clumsy to me.

Yeah, this whole mobile revolution has been pretty terrible for desktop linux. (In fact for desktop in general.) It's taken a lot of excitement and interest out of that space and into mobile development with the prospect of making 5 bucks in apple's walled garden. Very sad.
Unity is annoying and Gnome3... while it looks nice and I could probably like it, it's silly sluggish unless you have the latest Ati/Nvidia bs card and a working driver. Which excludes a whole lot of people.
Starting work and I would just like to consult the Men of Leisure council in time. I know they have alot of time on their hands and will probably want to debate this in an entish way.
