An odd question to ask, really. Sounds like the survey was written by some HR team who had to adjust for some staff complaints.

But at the same time, I know of too many faculty people who treat their grad students as slaves made available at their whim at any time of day or night too...
True. Mine asks me favours, but reciprocates in that he essentially does some research for me, or if he recommends an article or book he either photocopies it for me or checks it out for me.

Unless that wasn't meant to be a joke. :shifty:
I did actually have to do that, but the most entitlement I feel is to a nice bottle of wine for house sitting :D

I just had to fill in a grad student survey, and some of the questions really surprised me. One was "do you feel entitled to your supervisor's time, outside of working hours?" At first I thought "what idiot feels entitled to their supervisor's time outside of their office hours, let alone working hours?" but I imagine many do. Then I thought "I had to pick up my supervisor's garbage from his lawn this weekend after raccoons had been in it. I definitely feel entitled to something".

Thank fuck there hadn't been used condoms in there, I would have been scarred for life. He's hot, but nobody's that hot.

I think he means that none of our supervisors ever asked us to do anything personal for them. Though once mine did see me out of school and sent a drink to my table. This was long after I'd finished my thesis though.

Now I understand the context. Even so, I would so add that to the survey answer!

Earthy, smoky reds. I tend to have the best luck with Cabernet-Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Zinfandel. You?
Earthy, smoky reds? I'm surprised you're not a Rhone freak: Syrahs, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Carignan...

And if you're looking for great bargain wines in that smoky red style, I have to plug a lot of Portuguese Alentejo wines.

I have to admit that I hate inappropriate behaviour from people who are supposed to be professional with you. I had worked at my old job with my boss for years and he was one of the most polite, respectable people you could find. After he left though he started calling me all the time and making inappropriate comments and telling me that he had fallen in love with me. I had so much respect for him before that and I was so angry that someone I considered so much as a mentor I could no longer speak to. :disagree:
