i'm at the royal library in copenhagen

got clearance from the faculty this morning to enter some of the oldest and very restricted works. i have to handle one of my books with white doctor gloves and a breathing mask so i don't drool on it. who said being a historian isn't cool?

Wow. That's cool, my man. I studied it for 3 years myself, at the University of Oslo, but never got to do what you're doing now. Which works did you get to have a look at?

some official records of the misplaced people after the fire in 1728. official records of how the administration (or king, should I say) planned to rebuild copenhagen in all it's glory. those are the two i'm looking at, the first one is a huge leather book with thick paper pages, hand writing in it and stuff. pretty cool in a geeky way :D

it's a pretty cool subject. especially i like the fact that when they had to get water to the hoses in order to extinguish the fire's, the main reservoir was drained. because it was a pretty firm belief back then that salt water didn't kill fire as effectively as fresh water, the masterminds (who were all drunk, mind you) decided to let the hoses suck up water from the gutter. the 5 hoses copenhagen had to work with were all ruined in minutes from all the filth and crap they sucked up from the gutter along with the water

Man, I also see my man Ludvig Holberg was in the city when the fire broke out. He fled, though, of course :D
