That is weird what you have there. You're a free man until the cops decide to pull you over. Once that happens you're now a robot who does nothing without being told to do it.
Sure you're a free man. But you get pulled over because of a reason. In my case I forgot to place my registration tags on the rear of my vehicle. Therefore I was driving an illegal vehicle on the street. The officer doesn't know me, he doesn't know what I'm capable of, only that I'm reaching behind me to pull out something he can't see. Think about if from his perspective. The guy was rightfully freaked.
Instead of confronting the officer and exerting my "freedom" I was all yes sir, no sir, sorry for freaking you out sir and once he cleared me of warrants he even helped me put the tags on my car and I didn't get a ticket. I even saw the officer in a gas station a week later and he remembered me and made a "quick draw McGraw" joke. Cops for the most part are good guys that do a difficult job, showing a bit of courtesy and respect can go a long way instead of just assuming the guy who pulled you over is a black person beater and treating him like shit.
In the Moats case, he did run the red light and instead of attempting to ignore the police officer (if you watch the video, you get a better understanding than just reading the article) and run into the hospital he should have calmly explained the situation to the officer and asked if his family could be excused, after all they didn't run the red light. The family in turn could have sent a hospital representative out to confirm the story. Instead of a 15 minute debacle of confusion you have a 5-6 minute delay and everyone is happy.
I'm not saying we should cater to the every whim of the police, but things like not jumping out of the car and yelling at the police officer at a stop are pretty common sense.
