What about Crown Heights? And Flatbush?
Crown Heights is becoming gentrified, but it still has quite a few bad areas. Very large population of blacks/West Indians, hence the West Indian Day Parade that happens every year, during which usually a few people get murdered or some other such fun. Also there are the Hasidic Jews there, which every now and then some strong racial tensions will erupt between them and the black community.
Flatbush, pretty much the same story. Gentrification closer towards the city (especially to the south and west of Prospect Park), bad areas more into Brooklyn. Around Brooklyn College isn't bad (mostly Orthodox and Sephardic Jews), but I wouldn't touch anywhere else. The difference between just a few blocks is astounding. Unless you mean East Flatbush, in which case NO.
