Obviously it's expensive. As for boredom, it all depends who you know. If you don't know anyone who knows their way around then you can easily become lost or end up scared to go anywhere and stuck in a drab hotel.
If you're there for any length of time you'll invariably find some locals tagging along, as an English-speaking gaijin. Then it gets more interesting, even if it's a mutual abuse of this 'friendship'.

He's one of my faves too. If you have Netflix, John Mulaney's standup is pretty funny too. There's another one where he says "I'm not gonna rape you, I'm just a little boy" but I heard that bit on Pandora so I'm not sure which one of his standups it comes from.
