I'll meet you half way and agree that he is far from as good as his hardcore fanboys make him out to be, but still a very good artist.

His hardcore fanboys are some of the most annoying people on earth. They're like the Tool fanboys of the cinematic world. They're convinced that you get a degree in film studies by watching Twin Peaks, like the Tool fanboys get a degree in psychology by listening to their discography :p

hes the father of hipsters :D his whole TM and dream approach is nauseating

We finally agree on a movie discussion?
you and martin are welcome :p

This is all very subjective. Loving David Lynch (as I do) is about loving a certain feel / vibe / atmosphere. It's difficult to put into words, but there's a certain gloomyness, eerieness and dreaminess to his movies that I find really appealing. It's an emotional thing, for me; watching his movies has always made me feel really, really good. I've loved the characters, the plots and most of all the atmosphere in his movies. And I love that fact that he doesn't opt for happy endings just because it's expected. That he's an artist that does what he wants. He's definitely not for everyone, but in my opinion he's one of the best.

I know what you mean. I like those kinds of movies.
