It's essentially the same situation as we have now basically, except that Rodriguez is better in the air than both of them. Franco Baresi was not exceptionally tall either, however he was still quite decent in the air and made up for it by reading the game.

You do not need to be tall to be good in the air...look at Cordoba as well.

I'm not saying you cant be good in the air without having height, but you do have to admit that it makes things more difficult. I'd rather find a stronger, taller replacement for Thuram and have Gonzalo replace Canna.

Did anybody see Gonzalo Rodriguez's performance against Manure? He marked Van Nistelrooy and Rooney out of the match and intercepted everything that came his way. He also haulted two for sure goals by last second interventions. Rodriguez is absolute class and I hope we can secure a deal for him...he seems to be 1000 times better than Barzagli. Hell we should have secured a deal for the kid before he went to Spain.
Have to agree here, Rodriguez seems to have a rare knack for intercepting every pass that's short of perfect and I also noticed how he brought alot of athleticism to the defence.Rooney did squat in that entire match and if Rodriguez can find the discipline to stick to his man consistently then I don't see any reason not to get him. If there's anywhere we should be spending money it has to be the defence, on which we have based our success for years now.

I'd rather Juve get him than take a chance with Barzagli who seems to be the next run of the mill youngster after Bonera, Ferrari, Leggrotaglie etc.

Legrottaglie and Ferrari flopped at a top club, and Bonera seems to be the last person of the Parma 2003 talent squad who's still there. Barzagli doesn't seem like the successor of Nesta and Cannavaro.

4 of the best 100 maybe.

What about Oguchi Onyewu?
Nah, not Juve material, he lacks pace, collects a lot of cards, loses his concentration and position from time to time. Reminds me of Legrottaglie.

K, sorry. I have some friends who are huge Standard supporters and there always talking about Onyewu like he is the best defender in the world. They're sure he'll move to either Madrid or Chelsea.

cannavaro appealled for a new partner in defence during the summer and was ignored,it is now painfully obvious that thuram is not up yo the task anymore and we need cover. kovac is a descent defender but we need more options

It is not painfully obvious that Thuram is past his best, you couldnt be further from the truth.True, he may not be as good, as quick or as atlhetic as he used to be, but I would still rather have him than a Rio Ferdinand, or a Puyol.

Watching Thuram play is sheer brilliance and beauty. There is no player in the world that can do things as classy, as calmly as he can. It's beautiful to see him take on younger, faster players and beat them with his experience and skills.

Thuram is still one of the best defenders in the world and far from past it.
