From a couple of hours ago. Looks a little better.

Getting ready for a month of half days at work. :weee:
Talked to my boss today. He laughed as if he wasn't understanding what i was saying "World cup, huh? What's that?"

Fucking Americans :D I told him he had two choices, either i'd come in at the usual time but when Brazil is playing don't expect me to do much or i'd just come in late after the match.

How the fuck has it come to be that people here are comparing Iniesta and Baggio when they play in two different positions, why don't we compare Buffon to Pele while we're at it?

To me Iniesta was always the better player between him and Xavi, no question about it. Take Iniesta away from Xavi and how effective is he?

It also seems to be hip on Tuz at the moment for people to take shots at Baggio, anyone who is old enough will know that he is without doubt the single greatest Italian player of the last 35 years. If Buffon says he's the best, who is anyone to argue with him?

People saying ''biggest choker ever'', what bollocks, he missed a penalty which wouldn't have mattered much in the end because Brazil would have scored in all likelihood and won the trophy anyway. People always overlook that he scored in the QF against France in '98 and the SF against Argentina.
I am, i saw him at his peak and he is by far the best Italian player of the last 35 years, but i'd still choose at least 3 to 5 Brazilians over him. And probably 2 or 3 Argentines as well. Just saying :D

Figures. Journalists have nothing better to do these days than attempt smear jobs before major sporting events.
You've no idea how much i'm dying of laughter by reading some of the Brazilian news. It's the funniest WC yet BY FAR and it hasn't even started. :D

To tell you a few... There was a pitch invasion at Argentina's training today and one guy was a Ronaldinho impersonator, it cracked the whole team up, Messi was dying

Another one... There's this Talk show host guy who's married to this famous actress and they were minding their own business at Ipanema beach, when he sees a tourist getting robbed and decided to intervene.

Well, he was drinking his coconut water and threw the actual coconut at the robber, it in fact hit the guy in the head and made him fall. Authorities showed right afterwards and arrested the guy. So people are calling this guy now the hero of the World Cup.

Regarding racism, the self-victimization and the brandishing of the racism card at every turn imo are just as bad as actual racism. The awarding of the WC to a country with no football pedigree, furnace weather, and notorious reputation for slave labor(heck they hold people's passports) is a sham and with the only reasonable inference being corruption. Seeing otherwise imo points to extreme bias towards qatar.

Now to address your claims about the qatar WC. as for servicing the WC, apart from AFC 2011 we have no indication what qatar can and cant do on that scale and most stadiums are not built yet. As for the advantages of the country itself, it is rich because it's as big as compton with about 200k citizens, it's stable because it is an absolute monarchy that doesnt allow any dissent. And we as fans could care less about what the world cup would mean to the egos of a bunch of billionaires. The bold part is beyond ridiculous.
Again, Brazil and Russia aren't exactly the epitome of human rights. Brazil is one of the worst places in the world when it comes to criminal activity and the country itself has broken its promises regarding preparations for the World Cup. Russia has been the biggest ally of Bashar El Assad in Syria who has killed and displaced millions of people. Give me slave labour (thats an actual insult to the slave labour of the old days) any day of the week. Plus, more people have died on Brazilian stadium sites than they ever will in Qatar. If the moral high ground is what determines where a WC should be hosted then most of the world's countries should never be allowed to host.

Football pedigree is also irrelevant. South Africa and South Korea both lack football pedigree and the same can be said about poland, russia and the Ukraine but to a lesser extent.

Finally, racism exists... whether it is tied to this particular case is another story and neither of us can ever tell for certain but that doesnt mean that ever time anyone claims that racism has something to do with a problem then it should be automatically dismissed as self victimizing. As an Arab I've experienced it almost everywhere I went outside of the Arab world.

Politics and moral discussions should be separated from football. Security and the ability to service an influx of tourists and to build proper stadiums is what matters. The players should adapt to the heat, the stadiums in Qatar are planned to be air conditioned anyway. The case for Qatar is at worst as bad as the one for Brazil or Russia.

stretch after stretch after stretch, but i like your last paragraph about technicalities, soon enough the results of the investigation will determine that qatar bribed and cheated its way into being granted the right to host the WC, in which case they would at the very least have the WC hosting rights stripped and hopefully banned from international football for the next 100 years.

Watching the live coverage in Brazil of the pre-tournament shows, I am experiencing major saudade.

One of the downsides of actually being at a World Cup recently...
