    Interesting and pessimistic read about what to expect if you're going to Brazil:

    They said the same shit about South Africa. It seems like there's always someone who wants horrible things to happen to tourists. (See: Sochi Games.)

    In this case, it's someone who is one of the WC protesters who understandably would rather see the WC cash going to infrastructure rather than tourists, so he's got an axe to grind.

    It's funny to remember that the WC was already successfully hosted here in 1950, and the economic conditions in Brazil have only improved since then.

    I'm guessing hosting a WC in 1950 was an entirely different prospect to hosting one these days. There wouldn't have been anything like as many people travelling to it back then.
