IQ/Gila upfront and Montolivo in midfield are more of a concern for Italy than anything in defense (besides Chiellini's pointless hoofs).

Italy can strike a better balance with IQ or Gilardino playing beside Di Natale. As for Montolivo, he did nothing to mask Pirlo's absence.

Paraguay did nothing. You know you are shit when you set out to defend against this Italy.

They were playing against the previous World Cup champions. No matter how bad they are at the moment, the opponents (especially teams like Paraguay) respect their names. Had Paraguay players been a bit more confident they could have caused Italy lots of troubles and they might have even won the game in the end. They didn't attack with many players but even at those scarce occasions, Italy's defense was rather shaky.
