A match that the Azzurri really should win but rest assured the Ukraine will make it as tough as possible for Lippi's men. Will Nesta recover in time or will Barzagli start at centre back? Does DP drop to the bench in favour of Totti or will Lippi play both of them? What about Luca Toni?

Discuss.

I insist on the Toni - Pippo forward as being the best choice. Pirlo was average today, he can be dropped in favour of Camoranesi who can play out wide. This will let Perrotta to concentrate on the center as he's superb in there.

Quite frankly for the center back, Leggrotaglie next to Cannavaro is fine as the latter is in a league of his own and he just needs someone next to him. Kudos for a player who holds the defence on his shoulders.

It will definitely be a good game and Azzurri should not let Ukraine hold possession as they let Australia do this afternoon.

May the best team win and Sheva miss a penalty.

nothing impressive about the match between swiss & ukrainians, none of them could oganize effective attacks, they are average teams. it will be an easy task for Italian.
Semi final, Here we are!

ukraine midfield hasnt impressed me much in this tournament.

I dont know much about ukraine defenders, but when they played in the groupstage the reporters said that their starting defenders are out with injurys. are the recovered for now?

I think italy will miss nesta on this one.

Toni better find his scoring boots

I think Ukraine will wave Italy to sleep and score a sneaky goal. It remains to be seen whether or not Italy will have enough time to recover. I guess both Pippo and Del Piero will be benched, with one of the two proving to be a key substitution in the game.

A pass is called an assist only when the receiver scores a goal. DP had no assists today.

I hope the players give it their all and dont look at Ukraine's status in terms of World cup appearances, their past form or the proclaimed ease pundits expect Italia to win with coz I gurantee on the pitch things can be very different unless you play to your names worth. Something I exepect our players to do given our stumbles in recent tournaments

..

Ukraine is nothing special at all, apart from Sheva. They qualified because they were in a shitty group. Switzerland would have been an tougher opponent because they're more balanced. Ukraine is very beatable, and i'd be really surprised if they managed to win.

I think Lippi will use the first one but with Toni instead of Inzaghi.

Australia then Ukraine.. :) Fantastic draw for Italy so far.

Italy shouldn't have any problems with this game. I think this would be the best formation considering the players performances so far:
Pippo Toni
Perrotta
Gattuso Pirlo Camoranesi

OK. Here we go.

1) I think that italy hasn't prove yet the football that we all want to see from the Azurri. We are not blind and I think, honestly, that we are playing bad. But, if we, playing bad, are winning, imgagine what we can do playing good or great! IMO Ukraine its going to be a hard test cause in this stage of the World Cup, Italy needs to play good to move forward. I would like to see the Azurri we want. I'm happy for the results, because even though that this isn't our best we clasify to the next round and we have only concede 1 goal (an stupid owngoal).

2) The key for this match will be again our defense and Gigi IMO. Italy has proved that they have the best defense and the best goalkeeper in the World.

3) If the key is going to be the defense, then we need to improve our Attack. I think Toni is really lost in the field, maybe this isn't the kind of game he likes to play, because at this point I haven't seen the Toni of Fiorentina. Dp's performance today wasn't what we all expected so I think he is going to be subbed for the next match :frown: Anyway, I sitll hope I can see dp and totti together.

4) For the rest I agree with Rab that Inzaghi should play. He is maybe the kind of striker we need for this game.

Toni can't seem to finish the ball..Something Inzaghi is superb at....Anyhow, I'm ready to see anything but not Toni-Gila upfront.

Pippo has been much better than DP imo, and although he hasnt played much, I think he's much more dangerous.

Let's put it this way, when they played the czechs I was much more worried about pippo than dp.
