So it was water in the end?
Smelled like water, looked like water, tasted like water... hoped it was PISS.

Then I didn't have anything do with it either, right Andy?
You were the one who tossed water on it it!

take that shit to circuit city andrew
Nah, no point. Geek Squad said it would cost from anywhere between $250-1500 to recover the files. Totally not worth the money since I have my resumes and cover letters on email.

If it's porn on that hard drive , you'll download it again :D , but if it something important you better take it to some specialized repair shop , they can return data from it by replacing the damaged electronics and extract the data , as Martin said hard drive inside is very well protected (I think is in vacuum), so it should be safe.
Hopefully. It's not like I took a baseball bat to it. Can't wait to do that.

    :disagree:

Oh, Andy. What did I tell you about wearing diapers when your download porn after drinking so much beer?!? :(
    :lol2: Sorry DAD!

    and nude pics of you
... and your mom... and your girlfriend and your sister and the pics of you and your gay lover, Robidas.

Andy, maybe you should try to dry the notebook in the microwave oven.:spliff:
    Already tried... IT DOESN'T FIT!

So I don't have the right sized Phillips head to unscrew the hard drive. I have 20,000 different sizes in our tool box, but not the right one. Fucking figures.

    Story of your life, Andy.

Have you tried blowdrying your laptop btw?
Yes I did. But then I started to get these glorious sparks on my keyboard that flickered the lights and reminded me of the Fourth of July. Luckily I wasn't electrocuted.

Fuck it. I'm just going to get a Mac.

That doesn't sound too good. We did it once for my sisters touchpad or whatever you call those touch mouse area things when it got a little wet but it didn't sit in water. It worked out fine in the end.

Just get your Mac but they are annoying if you ask me. At least now you have an excuse to get a new laptop :p

Yeah, it's certainly a nice excuse. I've had this one for four years, so it's about time for a new one.

From what I've seen, Macs are less troublesome. Burke has one, Enron has one, my dad has had three, and no major problems have arisen. The only problem I might encounter is that I won't be able to find a stream for a match.

But Macs are just so superior to PC's from what I've seen that I have got to have one.

I have a Mac and a PC. The only thing superior on a Mac is using art programs and things like that which is why I have my Mac. I only use it for work and never play. I just hate the thing for some reason. I feel like I am just following this horrible college cliche' where everyone has a Mac. I love being able to pull out my Vaio laptop that I am probably the only one at my school with since my dad had the case custom designed for me therefore I just love it. I just like being one of a kind I guess :D

They are both cool though. I just haven't noticed the superiority difference in them is all.

Have you ever had spyware infiltrate your PC? I have. Not fun.

But from what I've seen everything is easier on a Mac. My dad navigated various types of genome date in front of my eyes like it was nothing, yet it came from different sorts of programs. Plus he never had any problems whatsoever with it.

    I will try a Mac.

The hard disk itself is a bit closed, I doubt that any water came into it. Hey, the hairdrier idea is not too bad. As for the hard disk casing it should cost you something around 20 USD.

Thanks man. Already tried the hair dryer bit and it caused sparks, which isn't a good sign. But I will do what you told me to see if it gets working. Just have to buy the right phillips head and case. Thanks for the advice... life saver, Jack.

I don't think Macs are any more water resistant though. :D

A Mac is cool though. I mean.. the thing just looks really really really good. I myself prefer PC's because I'm more used to the interface and have to change less. I am by no means handy when it comes to computers and there are only a select few things I need my computer for so till now I haven't had much problems.

There's solution: Parallels or VMware Fusion.

Bingo. Sure, Parallels or VMware will suck up your memory. But you should be able to download every virus-spreading Chinese video feed software package to your heart's desire to catch the matches online. :jvefan:

Just use Firefox since it's just like Internet Explorer....

That's why he should create snapshot of his virtual machine before beginning of the match. Also, he should use antimalware apps. And in the end, he could install some Linux as virtual machine. :scarf:

It's all I use at work now. Slick and sweet. I actually have one with the jumbo monitor. Which isn't horrible for traveling, but it's a lot trickier than the standard one. I've written to you all on it from Torino and India, etc., on it, but you need a special-sized bag and it's a little more awkward in airports, etc.

But you really don't need to consider a separate monitor then...

The thing is a fucking beast of a machine. Burke has one, and I absolutely love it. My dad once had one and he absolutely loved it doing genome work on the piece, so I have made my decision. I'm getting a Mac.

The Macbook Pro not only looks great, but its seemingly miles above the rest in terms of performance, easy computing, etc.
