The problem is, though, Wall Street essentially holds the key to the financial security of the general population. They are the people who control the markets. Pension funds, mutual funds, insurance, et cetera, they are crucial to the stability of about 50% of possible retirees who depend on this income in the future. Not to mention everybody who has purchased insurance to cover risks. Throwing in regulation, taxing, increasing debts, et cetera, the middle class really has no power in judging the outcome... unless Obama can construct a miracle.
So I really believe we are all connected in this debacle, but of course the upside is skewed to Wall Street.
