rangers will no doubt bitch, moan and whinge about smaller scottish teams going to Ibrox and parking the bus in front of the goal but it just shows how big hypocrites they are! they ahve played the most god-awful football in europe and soehow managed to scrape past much better teams. worst of it is they will go on and on about how "glorious" their club is,fuckin travesty i tell ya
You can include most of the British press too. How they can call Rangers 'brave' is beyond me and simply an abuse of the English language. They were extremely negative and played the kind of football Italian teams would be berated for.

They were a bunch of worthless drones, just like English football and anybody who likes it. The same motherfuckers who castigated Italian football back in the day are benefiting from the same, except worse, tactics that propelled some Italian teams to the forefront. Yet those English football fans back in the day castigated Italian football because it's "too negative" or "just boring." Well what the hell has Liverpool or Chelsea played over the years in Europe? Boring fucking football.

English football fans just continue to show they are not knowledge about the game. At least those I know. But of course they are not knowledge, because all they watch is the goddamn EPL. Fuck that league.

Until you win another world cup, shut the hell up about your crap football.

the mind-blowing thing is whenever a british team plays an italian team there is about 25 metions of "the italian cattenaccio" WTF? do these guys live in the 60's, drive morris minors and look at all those "filthy foreigners" on the continent as backwards? wait...of course they do!

liverpool have reached several semi-finals and finals with a brand of football that made the old italian defensive style look like free-flowing football. rangers have shown even less ambition, i cannot remember the last time a team treated every corner as a success, they have played the worst kind of football and the worst of it is, it has worked, so expect many other teams to adopt this kind of negative, defensive, boring tactics for next season.

the thing is Rangers aren't that good a team, when they sold Hutton they had to replace him with a complete donkey who makes Molinaro look like C. Ronaldo.

Their team's best players are defensive and they have to stick to their strengths. If they played attacking football they would definitely not have made it this far in the tournament.

So you can say that they are negative, and its true, but what they have is a very clever manager who knows how to play to his strengths.

I guess they meant brave in the sense "they were brave to show up".

well that is a travesty for football! a climactic end-of-season showpiece reduced to rangers sitting in for 87 minutes before trying to "nick" a goal from a set-piece and probably doing it.

Shut up Andy you clueless, bitter mong. YOU HATE ENGLAND WE GET IT.

Furthermore, I hate Rangers. The way ITV were gushing over then made me sick.

I hope Zenit batter them, since they can actually play football, even though they wont have Pavel Pogrebniak on. The 2nd top scorer (behind Luca diver Toni iirc).

They were wanking over Man Utd and their defensive pish, what is different about them doing it with Rangers?

Not always, but they have less excuse for doing it.

Man Utd actually have good midfielders and forwards. Rangers don't.

Blog: Revolting Rangers.

Rangers have reached the UEFA Cup Final with an approach that was either “heroic” or enough to make Susy Campanale lose her faith in football

If I were a Rangers fan, I’d frankly be embarrassed right now rather than celebrating. To see a team play that badly, that negatively and that cynically and yet reach the UEFA Cup Final is a painful event for any admirer of this sport.

The British media was all over the “heroic” performance, but can you imagine what the same people would say if an Italian side played like that? The Catenaccio and “typical negative Italian” jokes would come out, combined with complaints that they were out to kill the game for fans and neutrals alike. It’s a farce to see Rangers praised for such an approach.

This is a team that scored five goals in eight games to reach the Final. Having difficulty scoring is one thing, but Rangers seem to start out with penalties at the forefront of their minds. They never intend to get a goal unless it’s on the break or from a lucky deflection.

I have never seen a club side defend so deep and at times I wondered whether the entire match would be played in one half of the field. Watching Scotland play you’d never dream of such a negative tactic, yet Rangers are in the running for four trophies despite the fact watching them is a dispiriting and depressing experience.

At least Zenit St Petersburg can be proud after a fantastic performance to crush Bayern Munich 4-0. Even with Luca Toni back from a ban, the Germans were unravelled by a side that knew how to attack as well as defend. Surely all neutrals will be cheering on the Russians in Manchester?

The UEFA Cup has often been one of shocks in recent years and Zenit are among the most impressive underdogs ever seen in the competition. Before a ball was even kicked in this campaign there have been dreams of the Toni v Viola Final, but as it turns out neither of them are turning up to the reunion. Maybe it’ll have to wait until the Champions League…

Of course this semi-final also proved beyond reasonable doubt that Christian Vieri has left his retirement at least two years too late. Every time Bobo lumbers on to the pitch with a wobbly belly and increasingly daft haircut, a little bit more of the respect that the football world still has for this man ebbs away down the drain. He strikes a pitiful figure and at this rate would struggle to find first team football at Bari. Someone put him out of his misery.

That title is misleading.

I was hoping it would be a discussion of how revolting Rangers are.

And the hypocrisy of the British media is nothing new.
