I don't know how much of a child Reyna acted. Didn't see it first hand. But to tell a player like that he won't play much at a world cup before it starts is pretty stupid. It's just stupidity all around.
I mean, between his health and his attitude, being told that you're coming along but not going to play much is how it is. Might not be ideal, might not make sense to the player but that's the coach's call. This is on Reyna a bit. How he responds means a ton about his maturity because if he put his head down, gritted his teeth and trained him fucking ass off, maybe Gregg has a change or heart or gives him more of a shot seeing his dedication. Instead he threw a fit and acted more immature.
And Reyna admitted he didn't respond appropriately, both in training and around the team. And contrary to the word going around, Gregg didn't drag him publically. He was told it was a private dinner and he gave an analogy that didn't mention a player specifically.
I don't know if I'd call it stupidity from Gregg making the call to not use Reyna much. I already think Gregg isn't a very good coach but coaches have to be allowed to evaluate their team and make a call about who plays. Stuff we don't get to see.
