He was wide left mid to cover Cambiaso drifting inwards mostly. Stayed behind Yildiz just being a pass back option, not making runs or movements inwards, except short pass option. It was same the very few times he went central, was mainly static being close to Vlahovic.

Was far from a DM. In general he didn't move around enough but I'm really curious why Motta deliberately instructed him to be a pseudo left mid most of the hour he played. Extremely odd...
But lots of DMs will drift to flank the CBs in order to get time on the ball to set the play. I just think that's Mottas tactic.

I don't think Yildiz can play the whole flank by himself without insertions from a CM to draw defenders away from him

At Bologna, Motta had the luxury of teams coming at him. He needs to figure out how to unravel teams that park the bus.
This is compounded by the fact that Dusan looks completely useless so far facing such teams. If he scored on the first or second chance it would force these teams to open up.
Do you think the low tempo was Motta trying to manage the game to be well prepared for Tuesday?

I’m pretty sure we are only focusing one game at a time, just too many experiments and rotations all at once is obviously creating a bit of confusion, that along with the fact opponents are closing down well defensively and Vlahovic keeps being wasteful with the select few good opportunities that he gets.

absolutely love the meltdown

just two remarks:
- with conte, we started with 2 wins and 2 draws. against parma, siena, bologna and catania.
- the last time we played two goalless draws in a row was in conte's first season (round 20-21, parma and siena)
and conte had pirlo, vidal, licht, bbc, marchisio, buffon. now we have ZERO champions and only vlahovic and maybe bremer would get into that team's starting 11

At Bologna there were a lot of times that they couldn't break down teams and had similar performances to our last 2 games.

But we are 4 games into a rebuild, with a lot of new signings and our main one not having preseason. I don't think there is much to read into the performances at the moment. But he will need to come up with a strategy when plan A isn't working and teams sit deep.

Koopmeiners one of the best midfielders in the league?

Dušan Vlahović has missed four big chances so far this season, the joint-most in the league. He missed most big chances last season (19).

Whats confusing about Mitta's ractics is that he doesnt use wingbacks. Both the LB and RB do not cross the middle of the pitch and dont do an overlap or try something to create an extra man on the flanks.

dude, at that point of time we did not classify Licht or Bonbon as champions. It’s easy to say things in hindsight.

lets give Motta the benefit of doubt :) I am seeing many good things. At Bologna, he actually has a plan B when his team plays against defensive teams. The game against Padova and Chievo comes to mind.

he will play a 4-3-3 formation, where the forwards are actuallt made of a false9 and flanked by two large defenders.
That way, when long ball is played to the wings, these large defenders will knock it down for false 9

That's 2 games in a row when things aren't working he makes a load of subs all at once instead of just tweaking a few things tactically which means he hasn't got his preparation right.

Max was great at this but we are obviously a work in progress so let's give the man time.

When does a coach make 4 subs at once?

When things aren't functioning or when the coach is inexperienced + pretentious?

Or both?

What do you guys think?

I think he need to play yildiz more centrally
Either as #10 or False 9
Playing Vlahovic and Koop in central won't work
No creativity there
Ferguson as #10 work because there was still zirkzee there as creativity source

More than enough Schwarzkopf gel. Not enough ideas yet.

This is a young team 'tho. There's always going to be a stumble here and there.
