conte had pirlo, buffon, del piero, vidal, chiellini, barzagli, licht from day one. they were ALL mature, very high level players. he also had mature, good players like vucinic, matri, pepe, and prospects with potential like marchisio and bonucci. the two squads are simply not comparable. in their best form, only cambiaso and vlahovic would start for that team (and considering his recent form, vlahovic would be currently benched by matri). and the club had actual leadership and a new stadium to boost the morale.

not an excuse for yesterday's result. any decent team should have won a match like that. it was a combination of bad luck and bad match management. still, it's useless to compare that situation with this one, even if you ignore the difference between the coaches.
The maturity thing is huge. The gap in quality will always be relative to the time period in world football and in Serie A. I don't know the next time we'll have four (I think 4?) World Cup Winners in our team.

There is a lack of experience, maturity and trophies in this squad but we did still sign the Serie A's best goalie, one of its best midfielders, a very highly rated EPL midfielder, a highly skilled attacker (who I think actually was with Argentina in Qatar?) and a very exciting Portuguese winger to go with Bremer, a previous Serie A defender of the year and Vlahovic, most goals besides Haaland under x years old or whatever plus the really solid young players we've produced ourselves.

In this Serie A this squad should have more than what it takes to compete for the Scudetto. We'd get flattened by Conte's Juve, Zlatan and Silva's Milan or either one of the Napoli teams- Cavani or Higuain but fortunately we don't have to play them. We do lack experience but then that's Motta's job to bring the team together. He's not done that and he's not brought any progressive ideas to get the best out of the players.

That was a repetitive rant sorry I have a massive fever and am not sure what's going on

yeah, and the passengers in the management (winnie the pooh and scanavino) aren't at 2011 unibrow level of motivation and dedication either. from bottom to top, this is a weaker club than the 2011 one, especially if you include finances, new stadium effect, etc

i just find it ridiculous that if someone isn't the new marotta/conte then they are automatically SHIT. like there's only two categories of professionals: you're either god mode or SHIT. that's tuz for you. and to some extent, most internet discussions too - while 99% of people or things are some shades of gray instead of black or white, or either extremes on a linear scale
Champions league spot is a must though. No shock if Inter finish above us given their squad and continuity, and Napoli have Conte despite the shit squad. Atalanta has continuity too. But If Lazio and/or fiorentina finish above us that would be a shit season no ways around it.

    That was it!

45 minutes of solid football. Not glistening, unrepeatable big game football but solid, regular play against good not great opposition.

Overlapping runs and covering showed understanding between players. Passing was good. Defending was fine. We scored a goal.

Midfield FINALLY making sense. Locatelli, Thuram and Koop all managing to work well and get good performances out of each other. As a result we overran Milan in the middle and controlled the game.

That's the blueprint. Study it and fixate on repeating it as closely as possible in future games. Do NOT fiddle with it and change it all next match.

Milan is kinda shit these days, just changed a coach and I feel Super Cup is like a friendly. Shouldnt look too much into it.

I don't have the energy to dig up your positivity about Allegri's worst games man come on
I cant get excited about glorified frendlies after having 7 wins in half a season in Serie A. We can play worse but if we are winning most games, its all good in my books.
