What loyalty? I assume you mean to the NT, seeing that's what the rest of your post was about...
If it's not a major part of an international tournament, then Totti always conventiently get just a little injured in the Roma game before the NT game, and regrettably can't play. Always in the closing minutes, always goes off gesturing to his leg. I don't remember the last time he played in a Euro2004 qualifier, and there have certainly been a few of them by now.
To me, loyalty to your team means always making yourself available even when you'd rather not. You don't see DP faking injury to get out of NT games. He's been about a thousand times more responsible for Italy's plight in Euro2004 than Totti has been (and I mean that in a good way). And it's not like Juve has suffered for him playing for his country. I think, as far as the NT goes, Totti is a cheap, glory-hog showboat who only wants to play when the world is watching.
However, if you mean Roma, then I guess the flip-side counts. By denying his services to the NT he demonstrates his preference to his club. I think it's a cheap way to show it, though.
Jeepers he annoys me.
