[Sky Sports]: A board member at one of the six Premier League clubs who are breaking away has told Sky Sports News that the owners were fully expecting a backlash – “to be honest, they are not that worried about PR” and “the wider good of the game is a secondary concern”.

right, but it’s still a buy out. My point is that you can terminate a contract early, you just have to pay a big portion of that contract and usually the player makes it up by signing for another team
Yeah but contracts are guaranteed, so in those situations it’s the player that’s giving up money, not the team.

I saw that. Also the owners would be glad if their players are banned from International competitions. As someone pointed out, this sounds cartoonishly evil

I don't know if this is good for the game or not. Maybe it will be, maybe it won't. I'll miss the mystique of having the top clubs in each league, but that probably won't be feasible considering the rhetoric from UEFA. Actually, the Super League probably won't destroy football, but UEFA and perhaps even FIFA could certainly destroy it if they refuse to work towards a compromise. Sort of like the suicide bombers on the airliner when the general didn't get his way in the film Executive Decision.

The only good argument against this is I've heard is that smaller teams will suffer for it, which is a fair point
smaller teams, lower divisions, could effect national team development and make football less competitive but more lucrative at the top level

other than that it’s a pretty positive situation for the clubs involved
