@Strickland Now when you mention Milan vs Atalanta...
I think you should also compare Milan over the years and how their wage bill moved drastically. When they were at their prime, playing CL finals, their wage bill was 120mln euros (as a comparison, we spent 96mln, Inter spent 110mln Roma 90mln while Atalanta spent 11mln euros). Then you have to take into consideration how money was more valuable back in the days, since 100mln back in 2006 isn't as much as 100mln today.
Then you start seeing Milan's downfall. They didn't manage to replace their oldies and they started crumbling year by year. They literally turned from one of the strongest clubs in Europe, to one of the shittiest mid-table clubs who managed to finish 8th and who did shit for plenty of years in Serie A while failing to see EL, let alone Champions League.
They have a giant fan base, they get lots of money from sponsors due to their brand, and they filled their stadium alongside with the big TV rights. Still, after so many years, they are on a 80mln wage bill and after so many years of being shit, they managed to grab a CL spot.
At the same time you see Atalanta getting CL places, you see them rising their wage bill from 11mln to 40mln. It's going slowly, yeah, but it's a huge achievement because they have smaller fan base, they get less money from everything. Yet they managed to go from 120mln vs 11mln, to 80mln vs 40mln. They can even beat them at the moment since they are probably a better team.
Now, after all of that, you see Milan getting a special place, totally undeservedly, getting them into Super League. People think they are heroes for having balls since they are risking losing CL spot after so many years without Europe, but truth is, they are doing it because they KNOW they will get MORE money this way. They did not deserve to be in there just like Atalanta deserved to get more money over the years for simply being better.
Old system was not great. And yes, UEFA is horrible and corrupted. But not doing great in Europe, and not being in European Competitions at all, managed to turn teams into bad, rightfully so, because they were dogshit. Super League now places them on the top as untouchable teams granting them a lot more money than they used to have. It makes zero sense. It's same for clubs like Tottenham since they are nobodies.
Oh and yeah, Atalanta, and clubs who managed to fight for their own bread, will get punished for it just because big clubs and clubs who don't deserve to be there, decided to make a different competition so they get more money.
People think this is just heaven but they refuse to see it's all about the money. JP Morgan is in it investing 6 billion euros. They are probably biggest financial terrorists in the world right now. Of course even Super League reeks of corrupt, possibly even more than it is now.
