Is Pearl Harbor really that ingrained into the psyche of the average American? And by average I mean very average.
Not really, unless you're a WWII vet or something. That was just a little humorous fascism. We're pretty low key about getting our ass handed, you can even make 911 jokes now, if you're American. Unless you're pretending to be uber conservative, then Concord and Lexington probably get you pretty fired up.

Maybe so, but people still get a twisted if you make fun of it.
What do you expect from the people? How could you someone make joke about 9/11 or pearl harbor or fukusima? they are even joking about Chernobyl damn... Here, in Russia, a lot of skinheads and fascits, their grandfathers/grandmothers were fighting against this shit but this motherfuckers are reading mein kampf, using SS e Nazi symbols etc.

The article, either as a joke or for other reasons, obviously does not focus on the main occupation/claim to fame of the person but on something of minor relevance or irrelevant.

Michel Jordan did try to play baseball and did fail. Carmelo Anthony I supppose either had trouble with the law or has a fuck the police rap song.
