I don't get why a hypocrite with religious beliefs is any different than a hypocrite with political ones.

Political objectives serve real world goals based on real world events and circumstances which in turn have real world implications and real world successes/failures. Religious beliefs are based on something that cannot be observed and is based on the promises of unelected social leaders which have real world implications and will impact on real world events.

I dont know the difference between a politician and a hypocritical politician - are they not one in the same due to the nature of the career they chose?
