Any thoughts on proposed rule changes (or do you guys not tend to play strict rules?)

http://www.golf-monthly.co.uk/news/notice-board/proposed-changes-rules-golf-2019-125704

No issue with most of them.

Removal of penalties for accidental stuff is good.

Need to find out more about some of the proposals regarding dropping/taking relief.

Don't like suggestion of two-shot penalties being introduced. Think that will just cause confusion - what this simplification of the rules is meant to avoid.
Usually play somewhat strict to the rules. Most of them seem pretty good, though 40 seconds to play a stroke could be a bit short in some situations.

What balls do you use?

Picked up a new putter recently, seems to be worth it. Definitely an improvement

    Nice.

Similar shape to my Odyssey putter.

Got a new grip on my putter the other week and it feels great (previous grip was about 12 years old a well worn down).

    Usually use Pro V1 balls.

Srixon AD333 are my cheap alternative.

Bought some Vice Pro balls last year to test them out.

    http://www.vicegolf.com/uk/vice-golf-pro

Claim to be as good as Pro V1, but cheaper.

Seemed pretty good, but need more testing for me to switch over permanently.

Feel was good, but scuffed up faster than a Pro V1, so may not actually work out much different on price.

Heading off to Spain in a couple of weeks for a few games of golf.

    Staying/playing a little outside Malaga.

Do you think the Pro V1s make a difference? At least for outside of the greens. I usually use whatever of the top brands like Srixon, Taylormade, Callaway etc are about $15-25 (AUD) a dozen. The TM Burner balls are pretty cheap and seem good.

    Nice :D Good courses there?

You have to get to a pretty good standard for the ball to make a difference to your game - beyond it just feeling/sounding nice off the putter.

I notice the difference in balls in how much they spin/check on approach shots.

I won't detect that one ball flied two yards further than another on a tee shot.

    Dunno.

It's a drinking trip disguised as a golf trip.

    Nice!

Where all will you be playing?
    Parador Old, Santana, Calanova.

Never heard of any of them.

Assume they are all run-of-the-mill tourist courses rather than anything terribly interesting or difficult.

Played a typically illogical round of golf last weekend.

Classic straight out, straight in links layout.

Front nine in the most perfect conditions you could get.

Back nine the wind gets up, blowing in your face/towards the sea (quite nasty with the beach close on you right for most holes) and raining.

So I play the nine in pefect conditions in 38 (+3).

And play the nine in nasty conditions in 36 (+1).

@Red Do you manage to keep consistency when playing less often? Or do you always play often enough that it's not an issue?

I struggle if I'm not playing at least once a week and really need two games a week to feel sharp.

Can usually work it round with the long game, but you've no chance with the short game if you aren't playing heaps.

And I'm more reliant on my short game than most people.

    6 and a half months after @ZoSo 's post...

    ...Red responds.
    I feel for @ZoSo.

That's six months he's been unable to get on with his life because he's been awaiting my insightful response.

His whole life has probably crumbled in that time.

    New wedge:

Must be my fifth or sixth Mizuno wedge like this.

Same 58 loft and 10 bounce as ever.

Handicap has gone up to 5 (4.5) so target in last three competitions of the season is to get that back down.

Saved my better stuff for matchplay.

Won the Club Championship in August, smashing the defending champion 4&3 in the final. So my name is now up on the honours board for ever more.

And bagged another trophy a couple of weeks ago. Won final on the second hole of the sudden death playoff.

Was mucking about with the newest Taylormade M1 3-wood last week.

Got the previous version of it, but tempted to upgrade.
