Deschamps resigns as Juve coach

Deschamps took charge of Juventus last July
Didier Deschamps, 38, has resigned as Juventus coach despite successfully guiding them back to Italy's Serie A.

The former France captain took over at the Turin club last summer when Fabio Capello quit for Real Madrid following Juve's demotion for match-fixing.

Deschamps, who had signed a two-year deal, is expected to be on the bench for Saturday's home game with Mantova.

The Frenchman has already been linked with the vacant manager's post at Lyon following Gerard Houllier's departure.

Deschamps had spoken of his desire to manage Juventus in Italy's top-flight and held talks with the club's officials last week.

However, there were growing speculation in Italy that a new face would be brought in, with former Juventus and Italy coach Marcello Lippi amongst the names mentioned.

Deschamps helped Juventus win promotion to Serie A last weekend with a 5-1 win at Arezzo, despite carrying a nine-point deduction because of match-fixing allegations.

The former Chelsea player also won the Champions League with Juventus as a player in 1996 as well as the Serie A crown three times.

Juve deny Didier quit claims Saturday 26 May, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus have officially denied that Didier Deschamps has offered his resignation, but remain vague on the tactician’s future.

The report of a Friday night dismissal came from Sky TG24 after midnight and hit the front pages of all the Italian sports papers this morning.

In the early afternoon, the club finally responded to the suggestions that their Coach had quit after failing to negotiate a contract extension.

“The club has not received any communication of Didier Deschamps’ resignation,” read a statement on the Juventus website.

“Therefore the Coach will be on the bench for today’s game against Mantova.”

Yet the timing and the wording of the statement suggest there is more to it, as this was only released after a meeting in Turin this morning between director Jean Claude Blanc, President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli, director of sport Alessio Secco and Roberto Bettega.

“Blanc will continue his meetings, already started during the week, to rapidly clarify the situation with Deschamps,” added the official note.

I won't cry.
DD smells out a better offer that comes from Lyon and leaves the team. What a coward. I knew it. Chill Chill
On the other hand I feel sorry for Lyon. They have a great team, now DD will do his magic and will convert them into a midtable team. DD will save the french football one more time and the Lyon domination will be finally over. The competition in french football is back on track. DD is legend again
:p

I hope the wizard (Lippi) is back. I'd even take the grave digger Capello over DD.
